    Dr. Sapana Patel and Dr. Andrew Schmidt will talk about a recent innovation in the delivery of psychotherapy – internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy, or ICBT.  They will describe mental health conditions for which ICBT has been developed and used successfully in the past, tell us about how ICBT works paying particular attention to an ICBT program for obsessive compulsive disorder.  They will also describe an ongoing research trial where interested people suffering with OCD can try ICBT through the NYSPI and Columbia pilot program.

    About Professor Dryden

     

    Windy Dryden is one of the leading practitioners and trainers in the UK in the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) tradition of psychotherapy. He is best known for his work in Rational-Emotive Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (RECBT), a leading CBT approach.  He has been working in the field of counselling and psychotherapy since 1975 and was one of the first people in Britain to be trained in CBT.

     

    He has published over 185 books and has trained therapists all over the world, in as diverse places as the UK, the USA, South Africa, Turkey and Israel.

     

    He is currently Professor of Psychotherapeutic Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London.

    Today I talked to Windy about RECBT, his speciality. We also discussed CBT and other therapies and mindfulness. It was interesting to hear some criticisms of mindfulness from Windy, but also what he likes about the approach. We finished up with 3 top tips for increasing wellbeing and resilience.

    Andrew Tatarsky- Harm Reduction Expert

    Join host Monica Richardson-for a 1 hour interview with Andrew Tatarsky. Dr. Andrew Tatarsky has developed Integrative Harm Reduction Psychotherapy (IHRP) for helping people with substance use concerns and other risky behavior. IHRP brings psychoanalysis, CBT and mindfulness together in a harm reduction frame. The therapy has been described in his book, Harm Reduction Psychotherapy: A New Treatment for Drug and Alcohol Problems, and a series of papers. The book has been translated into Polish and Spanish. Andrew holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from the City University of New York. He is Founder and Director of the Center for Optimal Living in NYC, a treatment and training center that is based in Integrative Harm Reduction Psychotherapy; founding member and Past-President, Division on Addiction of New York State Psychological Association, Member of the Board of Moderation Management Network, Inc., and clinical advisor to the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. He is Professor of Professional Practice, the Harm Reduction Psychotherapy Certificate Program, the New School for Social Research and a consultant in the Advanced Specialization in Family and Couple’s Therapy at the Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis at New York University.  Dr. Tatarsky trains nationally and internationally.
