Lord, Transfigure Us
Jesus took Peter, James, and John
and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them,
and his clothes became dazzling white,
such as no fuller on earth could bleach them.
In 1976 the first apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary was reported. In 1984 she appeared to over 100 people at the grotto in Betania and soon afterwards the local bishop, Pio Bello Ricardo (shown in photo on the right) opened an investigation. After a 3-year investigation he gave his approval for the apparitions in 1987, declaring that they were authentic, supernatural and of divine nature. He recommended Betania as a place of pilgrimage. you could often find him among the crowds during one of the Feast Days outlined below.
Another unique experience that occasionally took place was the red rose that miraculously came out of her chest. This was an incredibly painful experience for Maria Esperanza and was witnessed by doctors, priests and lay people alike.

Father Hopper serves two Catholic Parishes in the Archdiocese of Lexington Kentucky.Tonight, Father Hopper will give his testimony of his road to the Catholic Faith.
Matthew 4:18-22 is the story of the call of the first Disciples. Today, the Lord is still calling forth men who are willing to drop everything to answer this call.
“Duc in Altum” means to “Put out into the deep” (Luke 5:4)! Here Jesus instructed Simon (Peter) to “Put out into the deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Jesus is calling all of us to be fishers of men.
Here at Deepertruth, we set out to go forth into the deep water where we can delve into the mystery of our Holy Catholic Faith (Ephesians 3:1-3).
I am honored to have served with Father Hopper in Korea and played a small part of his coming home to the Catholic Faith.
The Virgin Mary was instrumental in calling Father Hopper to be one of her sons making him a prince of the Church (Psalms 45:17).
In answering her call, Father Hopper has chosen the higher portion of serving Christ becoming a priest in His Kingdom (Revelation 5:10).
1 Peter 2:9-10 states, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were ‘no people’ but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy.”
Pope Gregory the Great (604 A. D.) explained it by pointing out that such charismatic signs were “necessary in the first days of faith, but not in later years”(Homiliae in Evanfelia, Hom 29.4).
The Holy Spirit is poured out upon the recipient through the invocation of the Bishop. During the Easter Vigil the Priest is authorized to Confirm by proxy for the Bishop.
What a great blessing and honor it was to participate in this process while serving in Iraq.
In Iraq I was graced to be one of the
leading Catechists is Baghdad as we Confirmed all of the Candidates and Catechumens.
The miracle is that all those receiving this great Sacrament receive the Holy Spirit with all the blessings, as those from the beginning.
Pope Pius states in his encyclical, Mediator Dei, 11/20/47, “…that we learn of confirmation through its liturgy is significant. This highlights the importance of liturgy as a means of knowing and transmitting religious teaching.” As water is used in baptism, olive oil, perfumed with balsam is used in Confirmation, the Sacrament of the Holy Spirit. It is Pentecost extended throughout the world, perpetuated and made ever present in the church. It is a call to spread the Kingdom of Christ, to spread the message of salvation.
