How To Create A Memorial Using Roses To Honor A Loved One

    in Environment

Flowers are very common at funerals, masses and in arrangements to honor the recently deceased. They say when you plant a flower, you create a memory. What if you created a memorial in your garden in honor of a loved one instead of buying a floral arrangement? It is a very common practice and also a beautiful way to keep someone's memory alive.  What varieties work best? How do you maintain the rose bed? What do you do if the roses become diseased or die because of inclement weather? Tune in to find out! In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to award winning Rosarian, Susan Fox, founder of Gaga’s Garden about what you need to know to honor your loved ones using roses. Stay tuned!

National Liberty Memorial with Maurice Barboza

    in History

Maurice A. Barboza is the founder and CEO of National Mall Liberty Fund DC, a non-profit authorized by Public Law 112-239 to establish a memorial to African American contributions to liberty during the Revolutionary War. In September 2014, Public Law 113-176 made the National Liberty Memorial eligible for a site in Washington's Monumental Core. He said, "this memorial will remind Americans that it was their vision for America that prevailed."

Mr. Barboza has written opinion pieces and spoken extensively about the 30-year quest to construct the memorial and his aunt's trail-blazing battle in the mid-1980s for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. A 2013 book, "Sacrificing Soldiers on the National Mall," by Kristin Haas, and a recent article in the Washington Post, "After 30 years, a site for memorial," by Tom Jackman, tell the story.

How to go from Grief to Peace - Support Victims of Violence w/ Dayna Herroz

    in Lifestyle

Dayna Herroz was a mother and grandmother in July 2006, she didn’t think life could get any better and she was right.  What she didn’t know was the life she loved was about to end. On July 26, 2006 her 22 year old daughter Tori Vienneau and 10 month grandson Dean Springstube were found murdered in their apartment and the nightmare began.

8 ½ years later she is a Survivor of Violent Crime and a proud voice for Tori and Dean.  Their story was told on Dateline NBC on March 18th, 2011 and it was titled “Complicated”. The following year Tori and Dean’s story was told on the Investigation Discovery channel series “Stolen Voices, Buried Secrets” titled   “Lethal Liaison’s” (season 2, Episode 208).

As a peer advocate, Dayna facilitates a Violent Loss support group at the Jenna Druck Center and hosted the Survivors of Violent Loss River of Remembrance and Holiday Memorial for the past 4 years.

She is a Board Member of Victims Assistance Coordinating Council (VACC) and is their 2013 "Victim Advocate of the year" recipient.

She is a contributing member & writer for the new book “Murder Survivors Handbook” which is the first book of its kind.  It came out on September 25, 2014 to coincide with National Day of Remembrance for murder victims.

Dayna has found a way to live with the loss of her precious daughter and grandson by attending and facilitating the Violent Loss support group at the Jenna Druck Center, volunteering her time at events, vigils, and one on one support for those who are struggling just to get through another day.  Her life purpose is to help others who have had a violent loss in their lives to find a way to live with it with grace and dignity, and to honor their loved ones in the process.
