    2015 UNLV football preview

    in Sports

Jeremy and Chris are back to continue our preview series of each team before the season begins. This week we discuss UNLV and their first season under new head coach Tony Sanchez.

Sanchez is moving up from perennial top high school program from Las Vegas' Bishop Gorman to UNLV which may or may not have as good as facilities as a high school program in the area.

There is a lot of work for the Rebels but luckily they are in the weaker West Division and have a top wide receiver in Devonte Boyd. Also, having Blake Decker as their starting quarterback in place is a leg up on most teams in the conference.

We also go over Mountain West media days with the interesting quotes from coaches and payers, plus go over the all-conference and order of finish.

    Urban League conference 2015

    in Politics

The “Off to the Races” session also featured speeches from Democrats Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley and Republican Ben Carson. The session began with Carson, followed by Clinton, O’Malley and Sanders.
Bush presented himself as someone who’s increased opportunities for African-Americans and said his intentions to overhaul education and dramatically increase economic growth would make things much better in the future.
Hillary Clinton  mocked Bush for his “right to rise” s logan. She didn’t mention him by name, but repeatedly suggested that his positions and record make it a hollow slogan. “I don’t think you can credibly say everyone has a right to rise” if they can’t afford health care, if the minimum wage is too low to live on, if college is unaffordable – and, she emphasized – if someone embraces policies that deny the right to vote.
“My views are a little bit different than others,” he said. “Given the enormous crises that this country faces today – crises that may be more severe than at any other time other than the Great Depression of the 1930s –  frankly it is too late for establishment policies, it is too late establishment politics.” Senate Sanders   Sun Sentinel

    Know Thyself Academy

    in Education

Mama Rose as she is affectionately referred to, the founder of Know Thyself Academy, has a B.S. in Communications from the University of Texas at Austin, a M.S. in African American Studies from Prescott College and is currently an Education Doctoral student at Northeastern University. Mama Rose established Know Thyself Academy because she feels, just as the Catholics, Jews, Baptists, Episcopalians and Muslims, have schools that reinforce their teachings and beliefs, it
is necessary that African Americans do the same. It is not feasible to think that an oppressive curriculum and system will educate a child for liberation, therefore African Americans must no longer rely on the current system to educate and empower their children. Educational empowerment can only come after you acknowledge their own worth. An African Centered Education will provide African American children with the self-knowledge needed to free themselves from societal bondages. Mama' Rose's Graduate thesis, When you are Left Behind What do you do? What Core African Centered Practices and Policies might benefit African American students, is the basis for the African Centered Curriculum used at Know Thyself Academy.
