Chandra Wyman, Executive Director, CASA of Natrona County, and Cynthia Sweet, a Wyoming Guardian ad Litem in Casper, will discuss the role of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) in Wyoming’s Juvenile Court proceedings. The Wyoming State Bar has approved this program for 1 CLE.
Rule 8 if the Wyoming Rules of Procedures for Juvenile Courts states that Juvenile Courts may appoint a CASA to serve the best interests of a child in abuse and neglect actions. There are CASA programs in five of the state’s Judicial Districts. Director Wyman and GAL Sweet will discuss how well-trained CASA volunteers focus upon ensuring that children don’t get lost in the legal and social service systems, and upon advocating for their interests until they have safe and permanent homes.
The handouts for this presentation are available on the Children’s Justice Project site, www.courts.state.wy.us/CJP.aspx , under the CJP Training Series Tab.

CASA sponsors this event to raise funds and awareness in support of children who’ve been abused or neglected. Join us as we welcome guests Josh Rodriguez and his son Santiago who will be particpating in the event and Cosplayer Robin Johnson.
Superman was adopted. Spiderman was raised by his aunt and uncle. Batman grew up with his butler, Alfred, and later took in Robin to raise as his ward. Thor was kicked out of Asgard by his dad but eventually reunified with his family. Few superheroes grew up in a typical family situation raised by their own parents, yet they all accomplished great things as adults. CASA, a nonprofit that advocates for children who’ve experienced abuse or neglect, believes all children deserve the chance to grow up happy and healthy and become superhero adults themselves.
That’s why the CASA programs of Travis and Williamson counties are hosting the 4 Annual CASA Superhero Run. This run raises funds and awareness to provide children who’ve been abused or neglected with the powerful voice of their very own CASA volunteer. Children with CASA volunteers are more likely to end up with family, more likely to receive therapy, health care and education, more likely to do better in school, less likely to be bounced from one place to another, and less likely to get stuck in long-term foster care than children without CASA.
The work of Promotoras in their communities to end violence against women is one of the most effective culturally specific approaches that exist in our times. Promotoras started in Latin America as a way of reaching communities from within, on issues mostly related to health and wellness.Promotoras serve as liaisons between their community, health professionals, and others. As liaisons, they often play the roles of advocate, educator, mentor, outreach worker, role model, and translator. This approach has been very effective in Latin America and its strength is also evident in communities across the U.S.
Join us as we hear the voices of Promotoras from a number of Latin@ organizations in a Q & A session . Speakers will be representing Enlace Comunitario, Voces Latinas & Visión y Compromiso.
Presenter: Dayanara Marte.
Often times advocates, service providers, and most individuals in helping roles bring their own experiences as survivors of violence, oppression, neglect and poverty into the work. These are often the reasons why they do the work in the first place. The impact of such experiences provides both strength and challenges in how we do our work and how we listen to community and provide support. These factors have the potential for making us susceptible to needing support, creating self care action plans and being mindful on all levels, mind, body and spirit. Join us for a conversation about how to take care of ourselves as we observe this year’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

My guests will be Marlene Pratt and Nora Maria Diaz-Bretherton, co-founders of Casa Latina, the first bilingual, multi-platform home-and-lifestyle brand designed specifically for the needs, tastes and values of the U.S. Hispanic market, both English and Spanish dominant.
