Live:Deejay Jamaican icons Kojak and Mama Liza chat live from Jamaica

    in Music

Kojak (b. Floyd Anthony Perch, kingston, Kingston, Jamaica, began his career chanting on various sound systems under the guise of Pretty Boy Floyd. He adopted the gangster image that had proved successful for Dennis Alcapone and Dillinger. He change stage name to Nigger Kojak. His debut, ‘Massacre’, proved a local hit. In 1978 Dennis Brown had an international hit with the remake of ‘Money In My Pocket’, which was followed by ‘Ain’t That Loving You’, featuring Kojak And Liza performing ‘Hole In De Bucket’. The partnership led to conflicting reports as to the identity of Kojak’s fellow artist, as there were in fact two Mama Lizas, Beverly Brown and Jacqueline Boland. His female partner was always labelled simply as Liza, which hindered the women’s careers,. The duo performed ‘Fist To Fist Rub A Dub’, a tribute to the soft drink Sky Juice, the modest ‘One Thousand Gal’ and the festive ‘Christmas Stylee’. By 1981 Kojak And Liza had become well established and the unprecedented success of ‘Nice Up Jamaica’ was endorsed by the Jamaican tourist board. The song, although on some pressings credited to the duo, was actually a solo from Floyd Perch that verged on the surreal. By 1982 he became known as Papa Kojak and was a featured DJ at the acclaimed Skateland show, recorded live as A Dee Jay Explosion. By 1996,  performing ‘What Time Is It’, was met with enthusiasm. The song was included on his distinguished comeback album of soul cover versions, which featured backing vocals from Nadine Sutherland, J.C. Lodge, Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt. The paucity of female DJ performers has often been criticized, along with the fact that early performances were only in a supporting role. The pioneering efforts of the two Lizas have since been acknowledged on record as influencing the likes of Sister Nancy and Lady Saw.call in 661-467-2407

Kim Robinson, Author, Among Other Things

    in Writing

Kim Robinson's father, a tailor, inspired me. The first thing Kim ever made, a halter top, was the kind with the choker ring around the neck. She attached some yellow yarn as hair, buttons for eyes, and for lips, a red licorice. Sadly, the California sun melted the licorice all over the place, but every little girl in the neighborhood was exchanging their toys for one.

In addition to continuing her sewing throughout high school, Kim was in the modeling club, where she, along with her friends showcased her designs. Remember, this was the late 70’s when Superfly and Cleopatra Jones were The Thang. Kim progress to making long coats and lace up pants out of recycled Levi’s.

Currently writing a story entitled Street Life to Housewife, Kim assures you that the title speaks for itself. The author of four other books near completion, one is best described as Murder she wrote for the hood.’ Kim's goal is to comlete an  eight-book series.

She is close to completing God Ain’t Spelled Government. where the alumni of Dominguez High School, Class of '77 has leaked a government conspiracy at her twenty-year class reunion. The Government does not know to whom the conspiracy was leaked, Consequently, they Government set out to kill everyone who attended the reunion.

Three books Kim rely upon. One is Green Pharmacy while the other is Live Right for Your Type. Her most important is The Holy Bible.

Childhood anxiety..stop the drugs & relax their brains! She did & it works!

    in Entertainment

Yay...another Tuesday and tonight's show is all about the children (yeah...you adults can tag along too)! I will be talking about the latest social media app SnapChat (that's where your kids are probably right now) and my segment #AskMamaChar is about parenthood.

My guest, Zemirah Jazwierska is an author, school psychologist & mother! She will share how she beat anxiety at age 23 after being told she would have to medicate for the rest of her life to cope. She found better alternatives than pharmaceuticals & quickly learned it was no accident she had decided to search them out, when her own daughter presented with the same symptoms. Through her research and education she founded Kids Relaxation & has made it her life mission to help as many children (and parents) struggling with numerous anxiety illnesses. Zemirah's work with Kids Relaxation has been recognized worldwide & she is now known as the "Relaxation Coach".  Find more about Zemirah's remarkable program at KidsRelaxation.com & facebook.com/KidsRelaxation.
