A Memoir That Reveals the Healing Power of
Haiku Poetry and Creative Self-Expression
While daydreaming in her oncology doctor’s office, Marjorie Miles heard a voice telling her to write a poem—specifically a haiku. Despite her notion that cancer was not a poetic topic, she reluctantly picked up a pen. Moments later, she was staring at a simple three-line poem she had written about the radiation phase of her treatment. She read her poem aloud and discovered an enchanted echo beyond the words. It reverberated within her heart, revealing her Authentic Self among the tears, anger, humor, hope and creativity hidden there. Marjorie reaches out to those who have been touched by cancer in this inspiring story of her journey to health and wholeness. Marjorie Miles, DCH, MFT, a former psychology professor and psychotherapist, earned her doctorate in clinical hypnotherapy. Dr. Marjorie has been interviewed on the radio and has appeared on television and film. A dream expert, she is featured, with director Wes Craven, in the documentary movie Night Terrors. After the events of 911, she was a consultant for three years on the National Nightmare Hotline. She facilitates a bi-weekly writer’s group, Writing with Your Inner Dream Muse and offers workshops, and individual telephone dream interpretation sessions.

Joyce and Mike speak with Georgia Hurst as part of Lynch Syndrome Awareness Week.
Georgia Hurst is a patient advocate for those with Lynch syndrome. She is the founder of the website and blog: ihavelynchsyndrome.com. She frequently writes about the emotional aspects of having Lynch syndrome, and writes for various websites and journals in order to create awareness amongst the global medical community about this hereditary cancer syndrome. Georgia is a wife and mother, and loves espresso, books, and being bossed around by her adorable dog named Sid.
What is Lynch syndrome? We will learn more from Georgia, or you can read about it on her website, or in this article from www.curetoday.com
Georgia noticed that there were several people in her family who had cancer at early ages, and several with the same cancer. This can indicate that there is something genetic predisposing family members to cancer. She delved deeper, got to a diagnosis, and kept asking questions, finding out how to protect herself and others in her family from the worst consequences of this condition.
Hear her remarkable story, the path she followed in doing her own research, and the partnerships she has developed with medical professionals to help her make progress for herself and others.
