David Maestas grew up in Vermont before enlisting in 1994 in the US Army with an Airborne Ranger contract. After almost 6 years in the 2nd Ranger Battalion he spent time with the Long Range Surveillance Detachment and 2-14 Infantry Battalion at Fort Drum, NY. His last 9 years in the military were with the 1st Special Forces Group having served as a Special Forces Engineer Sergeant, Intelligence Sergeant and finally a Team Sergeant of two Special Forces teams. He has earned two bronze stars amongst other awards over five combat deployments in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan for almost 4 years of time deployed.
Since he retired a year ago, he has become an entrepreneur having successfully started several businesses to include Maestro Strategic Solutions as his parent company. Jason began his visual effects career in 1992 at Dream Quest Images, working with the miniature department and the company’s proprietary real time motion control systems and later participating in the company’s transition into the digital world by assisting in the conversion of optical printers into the first generation of film scanners. After leaving Dream Quest, Jason spent the next 15 years as an in-house and independent supervisor on such films as X- Men 2, Thirteen Days, The Dukes of Hazzard, Sinister and The Town that Dreaded Sundown. In 2007, Jason was hired to oversee Sngmoo Lee’s fantasy action film, The Warrior’s Way. Shooting entirely on greenscreen on location in New Zealand, Jason supervised the design and creation of over 1700 vfx shots at vendors spread across New Zealand, Australia, South Korea and America. Jason also directed the vfx and stunt units. In 2011, Jason joined FuseFX as Senior Visual Effects Supervisor, primarily responsible for FX’s hit show American Horror Story, for which Jason and the team at Fuse won the 2015 Primetime Emmy and VES Awards for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects for the show’s 4th season, Freak Show.
