Evelyn "Champagne" King is an R&B/Dance Classics legend. She released her debut album, Smooth Talk, in 1977. It included the song, "Shame" which hit the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was also #7 on the R&B charts, #8 on the dance chart. Eventually, it went gold! She had other mega hits on that album such as "I Don't Know If It's Right" and who could forget "Shame"?
In 1982, she hit the charts again with "Love Come Down" which peaked at #1 on the dance charts and then "Betcha She Don't Love You" which peaked at #2 on the R&B charts. Amazingly talented and gifted, she continues to perform and rock the house where ever she goes. In 2004, "Shame" was one of the first records to be inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame!
We proudly and excitedly welcome her to Brunch In The Basement With JaVonne
We had a great time, hearing the story of Erik & Mad finding & following their passion for music! In their own words:
In 2012 we began singing together and discovered that we had a similar passion for music. We decided to pursue our goals together and started out by playing music on the street in downtown Santa Barbara. As we received positive feedback from those listening, we gradually became more serious about creating and performing music together as a career. The process of finding our sound has been long, but we feel like we have finally found it. Our sound is best described as a mix of pop and soul. We have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with some amazing people who have encouraged us and continue to push us towards reaching our goals. One of those goals was recording and releasing original music. On September 23rd we released our debut EP titled “E&M”. On the first day our EP charted at #73 in pop albums on iTunes. The EP has received positive feedback and our press release was shared by over 500 media outlets. We are excited to continue working hard and release our full length album next year.
"I am not convinced the police weren't behind my grandson's murder. They started harrassing him when he was 12 years old after my son was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Murder. He was writing about the police harrassing him on Facebook, and he told me they had taken his California ID. That was about 2 weeks before he was killed. He told me that the Police harassed him every-time he walked out of his door. They were harrassing him because my son, who was wrongfully convicted of 2nd Degree murder, filed appeals naming the Police and saying they committed perjury. Kerry was killed about two weeks after my son filed an appeal to the 9th Circuit Court. They put the same Homicide Investigator over Kerry Junior's case that lied on the stand to convict my son. Instead of looking for who killed my grandson they stepped up their harrassment of me. Why? One or both of the people with my son when he was killed are police informants."
