"Paws in the Piazza," a novel for middle grade readers by Jerilyn McIntyre, describes the adventures of Harley, a black cat who has moved to Venice with his American family. Inspired by the antics of the cat owned by her neighbors when McIntyre was President of Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington, the fictional Harley takes up with a group of local cats who roam wild in the alleys and neighborhoods of Venice, and meets the mysterious Angela, a beautiful white Angora who steals his heart. Then he becomes embroiled in a fierce and ongoing war between his friends and a rival band of cats, and discovers the magical order that underlies life in the enchanting and historic city that is his new home.
September 18 - Jazz Vocalist - Dee Daniels
Dee Daniels’ musical career is as varied as her four-octave vocal range is thrilling. She is a unique talent who transcends musical borders when she brings her jazz styling, infused with gospel and blues flavoring, to the stage.
Her vocal style was born in her stepfather’s church choir in Oakland, California, refined through the R&B era, polished during a five-year stay in The Netherlands and Belgium from 1982 to 1987, and brought to full fruition upon her return to North America. During those years to the present, she has performed and recorded with many ‘Legends of Jazz’ including Toots Thielemans, Houston Person, Clark Terry, Lionel Hampton, Monty Alexander, John Clayton, and Jeff Hamilton, Hank Jones, Bill Mays, Dennis MacKrel, Bucky Pizzarelli, Ken Peplowski, and Russell Malone - to mention a few.
Dee has just released her newest project, Intimate Conversations, and it is nothing less than stellar. Please join me and my very special guest for what I know will be an interesting, entertaining, and just a good old time!
Welcome to another edition of Howard's Talk, the official STS podcast. This week we take some time to talk abut what we've learned about Clemson over the first 3 weeks of the season and how it compares to our preseason expectations. We also discuss Clemson's QB controversy as well as why our OL is hot garbage. After that we take some time to preview this weekend's matchup against Florida State, arguably our biggest game of the season. Of course we would be remiss if we didn't talk about the breaking news involving Jameis Winston and what it means for Clemson. Finally we finish things up by answering some reader questions.
Hope you all are doing fine.

Tonight's special guest is Tracey Heisler, from New Jersey, executive director of the CASA program in Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) recruits, screens, trains, and supervises community volunteers to act as advocates in court for children living in the foster care system, giving them a voice that might not otherwise be heard. Mrs. Heisler, herself the mother of 8 children, has degrees in Psychology with an emphasis in Juvenile Justice and Forensics. She came to this work as a result of her mother and uncle's experiences of growing up in the foster care system in upstate New York. It is her life's mission to improve the quality of life for these children while in care and to facilitate their transition to their "forever family," whether through reunification, adoption, or kinship legal guardianship, as quickly as possible. The role of CASA is to advocate for children in out-of-home placement. The CASA is appointed by the Family Court Judge. The volunteer must read all of the child's records and interview people in the child's life and then makes recommendations to the court. All volunteers must be screened, fingerprinted and must agree to a federal, state and local background check before being accepted into a CASA 30 hour training session. All volunteer must be over the age of 21 and be able to provide their own transportation.
