Almost anyone who has gone through an annual review knows they can be a pain. If you're lucky, you've got a good relationship with your boss and you get a raise and maybe a couple of tips for a better performance. If you're really lucky your annual review isn't a surprise, because you talk regularly with your manager and get good feedback.
But what happens if you don't have that relationship? One review every year is like asking someone to drive a car on a highway and they only get to look out the windshield every 10 minutes. Business changes every day. Our responsibilities and priorities change every day. Why should we only get feedback once per year?
BetterWorks Co-Founder and CEO Kris Duggan thinks there is a better way. We should treat feedback as a daily, low investment, high frequency endeavor. Instead of slaving away for days on one annual review, we should rely on current technology to do small course correcting feedback every day. Duggan will stop by to talk about a better way for managers and employees alike that will make everyone happier and more productive. Learn how to:
Reshape the way you give feedback
Treat feedback like a Fitbit
Get more out of employees and be a better a manager
Kris Duggan is the CEO and Co-Founder of BetterWorks, an enterprise goals platform trusted by high performing companies to engage, empower and cross-functionally align their work forces. Prior to BetterWorks, Kris was the founding CEO of Badgeville which provides gamification and social engagement solutions to help companies measure and influence behavior. He has a master's degree in business administration from University of California, Irvine. He received a patent for customizable rewards systems in 2011 and wrote and published "Business Gamification for Dummies" in 2013. He currently resides in Palo Alto with his wife and two sons.
Often we behave in ways that are contrary to our best interests. What makes that so? It's kind of like declaring we're heading out to California, which lies west of us, and getting into a vehicle headed east. Along the way it might dawn on us we have taken action that moves us in the opposite direction of our intended goal so we'll make a course correction. Depending on what behaviors we've learned in our past we make a slight correction, only to discover after many miles that we are now simply headed SE.
Today let's talk about how to catch those 'learned behaviors' that are getting in the way of the Truth! Join us in the conversation.
SWAS is "Selling Without Appearing to Sell".
The show will discuss what SWAT is all about and how business owners can benefit from an affordable sales training system. As many as 90% of people in sales positions have never taken a formal sales training class. What have been the effects of salespersons meeting with clients without the proper training?
What does it take to become proficient in sales? What are the components of a sales process? What should be a salesperson's posture in a client interview?
Catherine Brakefield will start today's show off.Margaret Grundstein will join us in for the second half of the show. Here is more about each author:
The Second Great Awakening has stirred her soul . . . .
Rachael Rothburn is eager to leave her life of luxury in Buffalo, New York to share the gospel with Native Americans in the west. The only problem is, the missionary alliance won’t let her go unless she’s married. When Dr. Jonathan Wheaton, another missionary hopeful learns about the restriction, he is desperate to find a wife. He offers Rachael a marriage of convenience and she agrees. The pair sets off for Oregon to share Jesus with the natives, bur in the process they discover God doesn’t create coincidences—he designs possibilities.
Margaret Grundstein was raised in Detroit, headed east for education and tuned left to follow the great radical migration west of the 1970's. Her career has been eclectic, starting out in City Planning, shifting to photography, ultimately creating a niche that fit her life as a single parent; the owner/director of a preschool in Venice, California. Margaret also has a private practice as a psychotherapist in Los Angeles. Margaret is a proud mother and grandmother. Naked in the Woods is her first book.
"Right now the state has only about one year of water supply left in its reservoirs, and our strategic backup supply, groundwater, is rapidly disappearing. California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one..."
That's what one LA Times Op-Ed reporter has to say. What cannot be denied is that there is a major freaking disaster unfolding before our eyes. What's a little more vague is the awareness of the rest of the country, the potential ramifications AND perhaps, the root cause(s) for what is shaping up to be the most devastating drought in this country's history.
Tune in as Crafty, Adamizer and Bax attack this from all sides and ask the questions most are afraid of. No laughing matter but we wil try to mix in some comic relief and get a groove going as usual. We would love to hear your thoughts on it as well. Is it as bad as "they" say? Worse, or no big thinng? Let us know by calling in and joining the live chat.
Tune in, peace out and get that freak on!
