What’s going on the the US that compounds physician burnout? (Take a wild guess)
What are the symptoms? How do burned out physicians behave? (Ask an empowered patient)
Is it identifiable? Treatable? Preventable? (Yes, Yes, & Yes!)
Are there tactics that physicians can employ to feel better again? (Dike has identified at least 117)

Its a shame that we're all too familiar with this term, isn't it? It's a damn shame, but it's true. We've all been there and done that.
We're going to let you in on a secret - seemingly, a BIG secret! There are more signs to burnout than we recognize and there are ways to avoid it AND to handle it. The very LAST thing you need is a drug to take for it. Yikes! And you don't need to leave every situation that burns you out. There are things that you can do, all by yourself, to change back into your enthusiastic self and enjoy your life, your work, and anything else you once found fancinating, but now brings you nothing but dread.
Does this sound too good to be true? Well, it IS true! Listen in and learn how to keep yourself (and others) safe from the horrible fate of burnout!
Lydia Hyslop, known for her work on "White Reindeer," "Vacation!" and "Lake Dead," has created a clever and timely comic drama with "Burnout." The film centers around Ada, a beautiful girl who seems to have her life all in order until it suddenly comes crashing down around her. No one would expect that this girl next door actually sells marijuana for a living, and when it gets legalized, her business goes to pot (pun intended). Meanwhile, her brother urges her away from her lifestyle and her drugged out, alcoholic roommate (played by Hislop) can't pay the bills. Faced with many obstacles, Ada turns to unusual business opportunities to make ends meet while trying to reasses her place in the universe.
"Burnout" will be shown at the FSC Super Geek Film Festival in July in Miami, FL. http://floridasupercon.com/category/geek-film-festival/

As a parent of a daughter with Schizoaffective Disorder, a son with speech/language delays, a partner with MS, and a father in the later stages of Alzheimer's not to mention I am dealing with CIDP, I can say that I have experienced caregiver burnout.
According to WebMd, Caregiver burnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that may be accompanied by a change in attitude -- from positive and caring to negative and unconcerned. Burnout can occur when caregivers don't get the help they need, or if they try to do more than they are able -- either physically or financially. Caregivers who are "burned out" may experience fatigue, stress, anxiety, and depression. Many caregivers also feel guilty if they spend time on themselves rather than on their ill or elderly loved ones.
Today, LAPC Song James and acclaimed autor Marion D. Cohen will join me to talk about the very real challenges that caregivers face but no one wants to talk about.
Marion Deutsche Cohen is the author of 23 books, prose and poetry. Besides the two well spouse memoirs, two most recent ones are CROSSING THE EQUAL SIGN, poetry about the experience of and her passion for math (from Plain View Press, TX) and PARABLES FOR A RAINY DAY (poetry chapbook from Green Fuse Press. She is well known in certain communities for her writings on bereaved parenthood, well-spouse-hood, and math. She teaches math and writing at Arcadia University (the old Beaver) in Glenside PA, where she has developed the course, Mathematics in Literature.
