Forest Whitaker is synonymous with versatility. For more than three decades, the 6’2”, 250-pound actor has been playing characters that ranged from jocks to jazz icons, cops to psychopathic bandits. But in each case, he’s brought a mix of strength and delicacy to the role that would be nearly impossible to come by in any other performer. Oh, and add appreciative of his colleague’s support to that list. “She invited me to dinner when I was doing The Last King of Scotland,” he tells us of Oprah Winfrey, his co-star in Lee Daniel’s The Butler. “I got to know her from there slowly. But working with her on the film, she was so committed. She helped bring our relationship closer together because she’d be right by my side. She’d be holding my hand and rub my back when I was getting ready in the trailer. She said she trusted me as an artist. And the work she was doing was so strong.”
Remember when you would talk about a movie back in the '80s and nobody had heard of it? COMEDIAN GREG REIFSTECK goes back to remember these CULT MOVIES that only a handful of your friends had seen and cherished, but the mainstream somehow never embraced. His guest this week is steampunk author WENDY L. CALLAHAN (wendylcallahan.com) who is also a movie geek. They will each throw down with their TOP 10 films that eventually gained notoriety thanks to home video and the internet, but back in the day were merely a blip on the box office radar. Films include THE PIRATE MOVIE, STREETS OF FIRE, TIME BANDITS, NIGHT OF THE COMET, BUCKAROO BANZAI, MY CHAUFFER and many more
On a sunny September morning in 1930, six men entered the Lincoln National Bank in Nebraska's capital city armed with revolvers and Thompson submachine guns. In eight minutes they emerged with more than 2.7 million dollars, the largest take of any bank heist in history.
A nationwide search for the bandits would lead Nebraska authorities through the rough, gangland streets of Chicago and East St. Louis, and deep into the heart of the Capone organization.
The Great Heist not only chronicles the search for the bandits and the trials that followed, but the incredible story of how they got the money back. THE GREAT HEIST-The Story of the Biggest Bank Robbery in History-Jeff McArthur
