No Huddle Radio - Packers Shuffle Off to Buffalo and... Thud!

    in Football

Looking to win out and secure at the least the #2 playoff seed, the Packers turn in a real clunker of a game. It was a horendous, mistake filled performance in which even MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers looked more like Jay Cutler than Payton Manning. (Ouch - it hurt just to write that)

Your hosts Jason Perone, Cory Jennerjohn and Michelle Bruton examine what went wrongfor the Packers and try to find some "pawsitives" as well.

The gang is joined by Bart Winkler, Host of "Mornings with Bart" on K107.1 in the Fox Valley and producer at 105.7FM THE FAN in Milwaukee, who will give his views on all things Packers.

Roughed up in Buffalo, the Packers drop to wildcard position.

    in Sports

In this episode of The Red Light Sports Ramble; presented by The Red Light Sports Network, Evan Witalison and Troy Otradovec will talk about the Green Bay Packers loss to the Buffalo Bills.  The Packers entered this game with a five game winning streak, but have never won, in Buffalo.  The Bills came into the game clinging to hope, of making the AFC playoffs.  This was previewed as to which unit would win, the Packers offense or Bills defenese.

The Bills defense won the battle, from the beginning of the game.  The physical style of play held Aaron Rodgers without a touchdown pass, and forced two interceptions.  Rodgers did not recieve any help, as his receivers dropped passes, like they were hot potatoes.  The first interception was a ball that was slightly underthrown to Randall Cobb.  However, streaking down the right sideline was a wide open Jordy Nelson, that would have been a touchdown.  Later in the game, Nelson made a double move and was open again.  This time, Rodgers fired a strike but the ball hit Nelson's fingertips and fell harmlessly, to the ground.  In the fourth quarter, the Packers were driving, Rodgers fired to Jarrett Boykin and the ball deflected, into the air.  Bacarri Rambo, filling in for the injured Duke Williams, intercepted his second pass of the day.  The Packers defense did hold Kyle Orton, in check.  The Bills offense did not score a touchdown, and this game resembled the losses to Seattle and Detroit.  Marcus Thigpen accounted for the only Bills touchdown, scoring on a 75 yard punt return.

The Packers had one last chance, to win the game.  With 1:58 left in the game, the Packers took over, on their own 10 yard line.  However, on the first play, of the drive, Mario Williams beat J.C. Tretter and forced a fumble.  This ended the game, as a safety was awarded to Buffalo, because of the two minute fumble rule.

    Storming Off To Buffalo

    in Football

The Packers face a tough road test in Buffalo.  Can the Defense rebound after a pathetice second half against Atlanta?  Will Eddie Lacy be recovered enough to provide a consistent ground game?  Will Buffalo native James Starks have to pick up the slack?

Pell Mellers, Race and Memory in a Carolina Pocosin, Paul Johnson

    in Books

A Genealogical Quest in the Triracial South

What began as genealogical research into the author's ancestry soon grew into a fascinating tale with lessons for us all. Among his ancestors, Johnson uncovered: unpunished murderers, infidelities that produced stronger families than formal marriages, entire units of North Carolinians who fought and died to preserve the Union in the Civil War. The tale holds enough plot twists for a half-dozen novels.

But most of all, it reveals in a personal way what molecular anthropologists have been trying to explain all along. The fact is that we are all of multiple ancestries. Inhabitants of the New World are a genetic mix of three great populations, Native Americans, European colonists, and African slaves. Nowhere is this more vivid than in Pell Mellers, the story of one man's search for his tangled roots.
"In Paul Johnson's engaging journey into his roots in Bertie County, North Carolina, he discovers an intriguing family of pocosin dwellers who personify the South's multiracial heritage and its political minorities, including Unionists and the original Buffalo Soldiers. Pell Mellers is a solid contribution to the history of the "other South" that complements the well-traveled mainstream, illustrating our rich and textured past." -- Lindley S. Butler, author of Pirates, Privateers, and Rebel Raiders of the Carolina Coast..Read full description of episode here!
