Doug Briney: When you think of cowboys and country music, the cold climate and frozen tundra of Alaska might just be the last place on earth that you would think of. But, the northern-most state in America is right where up-and-coming country artist, Doug Briney’s career is heating up. With his highly anticipated debut CD, “It’s All Country” scheduled for March 2012 release.
Bryan Cole may not have been “born in the backwoods” as his debut single, “I’m Comin’ Home” suggests, but that doesn’t mean that this amazing new country artist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a city-slicker by any means. Passed down by three generations of family before him, you might say that “country” runs long and deep in Bryan’s veins; just as the three rivers of his beloved hometown run into the waters of the Mississippi. By embracing the traditions of yesteryears’ legendary performers, while honing his own God-given vocal and guitar-playing abilities, Bryan Cole has cultivated a sound that is nothing short of INCREDIBLE.

In a world overly pleased with itself, we have forgotten exactly what our true natural state is. Instead of blaming ourselves for the condition of the planet, with its wars, its anger, its ever continuing descent into madness, we tend to blame our religions as the cause.
Unfortunately for the humanist, I make a bold proclamation -- man can do good things but his heart is ever turned to wickedness.
The state of man is not one rising from the ashes to become greater, bigger, and better thus thrusting away the need for God. In fact, it's the exact opposite. As we strive for higher planes through whatever means we can -- getting rid of religion, defining man as a material being without a soul, or making us the sum of chemical process and machines to be simply dialed up to the 'good' button -- we began to sink lower. For all the good we do, we at the same time see more wickedness being performed.
This propensity for evil exists in all of us -- believers or not. For the non-believer, it is a problem because good people can sometimes do bad things. For the believers, it is a daily struggle we are constantly aware of. As the apostle Paul said in Romans 7:24 "O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?"

Jennifer Brozek and Byran Thomas Schmidt have edited an anthology for Baen Books that highlights stories that contain Faith and Magic.
"Swords and Shields. Faith and Magic.
Grab yours and get ready, for the enemy is on the move.
High fantasy and mighty conflicts go hand-in-hand. In great wars, armies rise to fight evil hordes and heroes struggle to push beyond their imperfections and save the day. These stories include more than just epic landscapes and characters...but also epic battles.
Imagine a doctor struggling to identify the spy who has infiltrated his company's ranks and poisoned his colleagues or a boy suspected of murder by a king yet protected by a princess as he helps her father against his own people. Imagine a butcher discovering that he's called to lead an uprising, or a First Born knowing that she must betray her own in order to save humanity.
The possibilities are endless, but at the heart they have this in common: soldiers--ordinary and otherwise-struggling against extraordinary odds to survive the day. They must withstand dark magic, dodge enemy blades, and defy the odds to survive SHATTERED SHIELDS."
