Mark Schulman has enjoyed an unprecedented career over the last 20+ years as a first call drummer for world-class rock and pop artists. He has been voted ‘Top 3 Pop-Rock Drummers’ in the 2014 Modern Drummer Reader’s Poll. Having finished his third record breaking world tour with P!NK (featured in the DVD ‘The Truth About Love Tour’ well as DVDs from her ‘I’m Not Dead’ and ‘Funhouse’ tours) Mark joined CHER for her ‘Dressed To Kill’ World Tour 2014. Mark’s resume reads like a “Who’s Who” of international Rock n’ Roll royalty including acts such as BILLY IDOL, FOREIGNER, SHERYL CROW, STEVIE NICKS, BEYONCE’ and so many other world–class artists.
Mark's new book, Conquering Life’s Stage Fright: Three Steps to Top Performance arms readers with three core principles: Clarity, Capability and Confidence. These core concepts are explained through entertaining stories and exercises to transform any fear, anxiety or tentative communication into confident peak performance.
Music is not Mark's only driving force; he was the chairman of the board of directors of Create Now!, a non-profit organization founded in 1996, to help change troubled children's lives through creative arts mentoring. A cancer survivor, Mark has also motivated children and teens through his work doing seminars with the Ronald McDonald House and benefits for the Teenage Cancer Trust in the UK.
The British Virgin Islands, part of a volcanic archipelago in the Caribbean, is a British overseas territory comprising 4 main islands and many smaller ones. Tortola is home to the low-key capital, Road Town, and rainforested Sage Mountain National Park. On Virgin Gorda is The Baths, a labyrinth of beachside boulders.
The abolition of slavery occurred on 1 August 1834, and to this day it is celebrated by a three day public holiday on the first Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in August in the British Virgin Islands. The original emancipation proclamation hangs in the High Court. However, the abolition of slavery was not the single event that it is sometimes supposed to have been. Emancipation freed a total of 5,792 slaves in the Territory, but at the time of abolition, there were already a considerable number of free blacks in the Territory, possibly as many as 2,000.
In January 1808, HMS Cerberus seized the American schooner, the Nancy with a cargo of enslaved Senegalese Africans in the Territory's waters; between August 1814 and February 1815 a further four ships' slave cargoes were seized from the Venus, the Manuella, the Atrevido and the Candelaria and a further 1,318 liberated slaves were deposited on Tortola's shores (of whom just over 1,000 survived).
In 1819, a Portuguese slave ship, the Donna Paula, was wrecked upon the reef at Anegada. The ship's crew and 235 slaves were saved from the wreckage. Further Spanish ships, enroute to Puerto Rico were reported wrecked on the reef at Anegada in 1817 and 1824, and their cargos settled on Tortola.
Although many of these former slaves died due to the appalling conditions that they were kept in during the transatlantic crossing, a large number survived, and had children. - Courtesy of wikipedia.org

This week on Behind the Headlines, we're interviewing British journalist, author and human rights advocate Anne Cadwallader about UK government collusion with terrorism in Ireland.
Cadwallader is a former BBC and RTE journalist who has written extensively on the Northern Ireland conflict for media outlets like Ireland on Sunday, the New York Irish Echo, Reuters News Agency, and others. Using her deep understanding of the conflict, she has dedicated herself to helping bereaved families discover more about the circumstances in which their relatives were killed, and has campaigned for an Agreed Truth Recovery Process for all those who lost family members during 'The Troubles’.
To this end, Anne has worked with the now-suspended Historical Enquiries Team, the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland, and the Serious Crime Review Team of the Police Service of Northern Ireland. Perhaps her most important work however has been as a researcher with the Pat Finucane Center (PFC), an Armagh-based human rights advocacy and lobbying organisation. One of the core activities of the PFC is to research and document individual cases of death during the conflict.
As a result of her work in this regard, Anne wrote the book Lethal Allies: British Collusion in Ireland, published by Mercier Press of Cork in October 2013. This ground-breaking work, which lays bare the fact of British collusion in Ireland, has sold 17,000 copies to date, and has been reprinted seven times. Join us this Sunday August 2nd, from 2-4pm EST / 8-10pm CET / 7-9pm GMT, for an interview you won't hear or see on British mainstream media.
