She studied art in Europe and when she returned home, she worked as a photographer, publisher, writer, teacher and fine artist.
Heidi practices breath awareness, an ancient Vipassana meditation technique. She practiced this technique for more than thirty years. After experiencing many benefits including better health, creativity and happiness, she was inspired to help children. In 1996, she pioneered an attention development program called Mindmastery and was one of the first to teach breath awareness to children in public schools in Canada. Heidi currently conducts breath awareness workshops and lectures and spends time painting and exhibiting internationally.

Heidi Thompson is an author, teacher and artist. She attended her first Vipassana meditation retreat in 1983 where she learned a mind-training and concentration developing technique called 'breath awarness.' For over 30 years, Heidi has been practicing breath awareness and has experienced many benefits including better health, calmness, focus, creativity and happiness. She then became inspired to teach this to children. Heidi pioneered a program called Mindmastery and began working with those struggling with ADHD.

HEIDI THOMPSON has practiced breath awareness for more than twenty-five years. After experiencing positive changes in her life, she developed an attention development program for children called Mindmastery. Thompson conducted Mindmastery workshops in B.C. public and private schools with grades K-12 with excellent results. Shortly thereafter, in 1999, Mindmastery was featured on CBC Television and her article “Teaching Children Concentration” was published in Vancouver‘s Common Ground magazine.
In response to a flood of inquiries from parents, teachers, and childcare professionals wanting to learn breath awareness and to teach it to children, she has now written Calm Focus Joy: The Power of Breath Awareness offering a comprehensive learning and teaching guide.
Thompson was born in Vernon, a small town in Western Canada. She travelled to Switzerland in the early 1970’s and trained as a photographer at the University of Art & Design in Zurich. She moved to Germany and continued her fine art studies at the Akademie der Bildene Kunste in Nurnberg. Here she studied painting and drawing for one year before relocating to Budapest where she attended the Hungarian Art Academy for a final year of art.
Heidi is passionate about photography and fine arts, psychology, yoga, mind development and meditation. She has been involved in teaching breath awareness since 1990. Her book, Calm Focus Joy – offers tools and plans to help people of all ages develop more focus and calmness in their lives.
