Meet the creator of Ofo Ase (the powers of the word) by Poetic Soul

    in Poetry

Poetic Soul first made a name for himself on Atlanta's poetry scene at the infamous Patti Hut Café. As a breeding ground for up-and-coming word artists, Patti Hut had developed a reputation for a spot for “intimate poetry”.
This is where he fine tuned his craft and skills in front of an audience of 100 plus. After joining the Atlanta based  poetry troupe called Klub Kummba and getting a feel for the Atlanta open mic scene.  Poetic Soul's career as a writer gained momentum, so did his work as a poet. "[My poetry] is about making things matter. Making those invisible, intangible ideas and dreams, things that you can touch, that you can feel," he said. So far he has done this in his new book of poetry " OFO ASE'  (the powers of the word). . Soul acknowledged the privilege he felt at being able to share his poetry on stage and in literary form. "To be a young poet and publish books is quite a blessing, because publishers print poetry like churches sing hymns--to maintain some sort of traditional stance," he said.  In the spring of 1995 his first self published book of poetry hit the streets  entitled  "Bullets & Blood", which was  distilled from seven years of journal writing. He went on to produce six more books of poetry (1997) The River Is Overflowing With Words, (2000) Love Serenade, (2008) The Son Of A Warrior Griot, (2009) Lovin U, (2010) Ubran Griot and (2012)

A Changing World Live With The Rayfords

    in Lifestyle

In life, we go through so many things that could destroy us, if we let them. We don't have to let the negative experiences, define us. We look into the word to determine who we are, not by life's circumstances.

If we dwell on the circumstances, we miss the many benefits that God has for us. Instead of complaining, let's praise Him. Instead of looking for someone to have a pity party with us, let's find some folks who know how to praise God in the midst of the storm and come out victorious.

This is life--the reality that we live on a daily basis. Some days are better than others, but we should be able to praise God every day, no matter what life throws at us.

For appetizers--just enough to get you stirred up and hungry for more, check out the books on Amazon. com, by searching for: Mary M. Hall-Rayford or click on this link: http://viewAuthor.at/maryglobal

Don't forget to join us next week at the same time in the same place. Remember, God loves you and we do, too!

    in Books

How do you have to think unconventionally to write great stories for children? Join us as children's book author Bruce Coville talks about extraterrestrials and other oddities for kids.

Bruce Coville was born in Syracuse, New York, in 1950. His family lived in farm territory north of Syracuse and he grew up around the corner from his grandparents’ dairy farm, where he spent a great deal of time dodging cows and chores as well as he was able. As a young reader he loved Mary Poppins and Dr. Dolittle, but also read lots of things people consider junk (Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, Tom Swift, and zillions of comic books).

In 1978 he published his first book, The Foolish Giant, a picture book illustrated by his wife, Katherine. Since then he has published over 100 books for children and young adults, from picture books to young adult novels. Among his best known titles are My Teacher Is an Alien, Into the Land of the Unicorns, and Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher. His work has appeared in 16 languages, and won children's choice awards in numerous states.

A frequent speaker at schools and conferences, Bruce has 3 times been opening or closing keynoter for the national conference of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. He travels the world to speak in schools, and has presented at American or International Schools in Sao Paolo, London, Madrid, Shanghai, Delhi, Seoul, and many others.

In addition to his writing, in 2001 Bruce founded FULL CAST AUDIO, an audiobook publishing company devoted to producing full cast, unabridged recordings of great children's books. He has produced over a hundred audiobooks, frequently also directing or performing.
