Dolph Lundgren's motion picture debut came in the 1985 James Bond feature A VIEW TO A KILL. ‘I’m on screen for no more than ten seconds, if you blink you miss me...’. But, it was Dolph’s performance in ROCKY IV later that year that got him noticed worldwide. After a 9 month audition process among 5,000 hopefuls, Dolph was chosen by Sylvester Stallone to be his fearsome Soviet opponent in the ring, Captain Ivan Drago. From here Dolph build a solid career as an international action-hero & has since starred in more than thirty-five feature films. In the eighties & nineties, Lundgren played the classic action lead in such films as MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO co-starring the late Brandon Lee & BLACKJACK by Hong-Kong action legend John Woo. In the 90’s Lundgren also turned in some memorable performances as the main villain to other action stars, most notably in UNIVERSAL SOLDIER opposite Jean Claude Van Damme, directed by Roland Emmerich & “JOHNNY MNEMONIC opposite Keanu Reeves. Dolph made the move behind the camera to become a director six years ago. Since then, Dolph has directed five feature films. His production company Thor Pictures is currently developing several projects, which he will produce, star & direct. His two latest projects are a feature he co-wrote & directed, COMMAND PERFORMANCE produced by Avi Lerner & Nu Image Films – & ICARUS, a neo-noir thriller, shot in Vancouver, BC. In 2009 Dolph co-starred with fellow action star Jean-Claude Van Damme in UNIVERSAL SOLDIER REGENERATION, a sequel to the film that paired the two European actors back in the 90’s. If last week was “The Smoke Show”, this is “The JGR Hour”. We’ve talked all season about the dominance of Joe Gibbs Racing and it continues today coming out of Richmond.
Carl Edwards did the unthinkable last week bumping his own teammate Kyle Busch in the last final half lap to win his second-in-a-row. Is that “just racing”, or is there an “unwritten rule” someplace? How much does this create a teammate rift, and are we seeing a new more aggressive Carl Edwards this season?
Tony Stewart returned last week exactly as Sidekick predicted – good enough for us to all complain that he sucks. BUT, his “lug nuts rant” got NASCAR attention as they addressed the rules. Is anyone really surprised by that?
But man oh man, to be a fly-on-the-wall at Friday night’s Driver’s Council meeting where Brian France showed up unexpectedly and apparently, left it lively.
Today we’re at Talladega – one of Frat House Mike’s favorites, a superspeedway – and we’ll be giving our thoughts on outcomes and “Big Ones” here; plus an NHRA update at #6 in Houston Texas; Sidekick’s got some Fantasy NASCAR recommendations; and, it’s getting VERY competitive on the Frat House Sports’ Eat-My-Dust Winners Pick leaderboard particularly after last week.
Tune-in to THE BEST pre-race sports talk show with Frat House Mike, Sidekick, Brandon, and YOUR calls at 347 – 826 – 9964. Check in to the Frat House Sports Garage - 11 a.m. ET!
Not so very long ago, students enrolled in university were taught rhetoric. That was of a time when the skill of persuasion was highly valued. It taught the difference between argument and debate. To do this, the student learned how to control their emotion. When an opponent approached the topic with temper, his effectiveness was lost- lose of such control was a vulnerability- the poker player with an obvious 'tell'. Why bring this up Graham? Why now? Good questions that deserve good answers. Today, we are on the cusp of a masonic cultural event. We don't need to doubt whether change is coming. It's already begun. We never have developed a narrative. How do we know? What is masonry? Ask ten masons that question and we get eleven opinions. Why? Because we work without a narrative that describes and operationalizes our philosophy. One of the rules of engagement for our fellows is to avoid controversy. If you have witnessed what happens when such matters are discussed, you know what I mean. Emotion uncontrolled burdens the topic and attempts to stifle discussion of the merit of all sides of the issues. Our narrative may be in fragments simply because we have not promoted the artfulness of rhetoric. Do you think it is stunning that we have a culture hundreds of years old, rich in lessons of ethics, principles, values, purpose, science and the arts and have yet to learn how to debate? Without a form to deal with controversial findings and opinions, we make difficult the capacity to acknowledge the evolution of masonic-culture. Yesterday I sat with a very earnest young mason- young only in years but not judgment. He responded to something said at the table with the muscularity that is typical of a group of men. BUT- after he had let us know he held serious opinions, he was gratefully receptive to debate- restore rhetoric I say!

NFL Draft Night Eve is the perfect time for Bleeding Green Nation Editor-in-Chief Brandon Lee Gowton to make another visit to the Philly Pressbox Radio Roundtable. Brandon joins Bill Furman and Jim "Chet" Chesko to talk about last week's big trade between the Eagles and Browns, netting the Birds the second overall pick in the draft, and whether Carson Wentz (or Jared Goff) is the long-term answer at quarterback - and Sam Bradford's desire to be traded. The guys will also discuss the Eagles' other needs, and how the 2016 squad is shaping up. Also on tap: a discussion about the Flyers' ouster from the NHL playoffs and a look at the Phillies 20 games into the season. Of course, there will be our weekly Philly sports trivia question and prize courtesy of Carl's Cards and Collectibles, too. It's all brought to you by shopforkisses.org, the online shopping network of the Kisses for Kyle Foundation.
