  • Standing Strong in Love Against the KKK: How 4 Friends Met in Columbia, SC

    in Politics Progressive

Back in June, I (Bram Sarkowski) was contacted by fellow Anti-Racist friend Rigel about a planned KKK rally at the South Carolina statehouse in Columbia, South Carolina. Being that we had connected in Anti-Racist groups online and had watched the horrors of Charleston & discussed what could happen with a KKK rally, we were both primed to take a stand against this group there.

Rigel was our fearless leader, having protested with Occupy Cincinnati & other movements, and worked to coordinate a road trip among us Anti-Racist friends. Amy from nearby Rigel was on board and we were able to contact West Columbia, SC local Ami Propagator to join us at the statehouse.

With plans in place and generous support from friends, we all converged on Columbia on Friday, July 17. We all stayed in the same hotel just blocks from where the Confederate flag had flown for 54 years until recently.

What we saw on the day of the rally was a mass of people, mostly against the KKK, gathering to listen to Black Power & Black Justice groups on one side of the statehouse. After standing in solidarity with them, it was clear that the KKK had arrived and we all made our way to the other side of the building...to catch a sight of pure ignorance and hatred in person...

What happened next will be left up to our guests Ami, Rigel and Amy as we all come together just after a month later.

I look forward to talking with my friends once more. Won't you join us?

    Let's get the conversation going...

BK Irons, Conscious Comic, on "Racism: Alive and Well" & Racial Healing

    in Politics Progressive

In what will become an ongoing overall conversation & a series of conversations, Barbara, Bram & The Social Spitball Show have committed to have guests on Racial Healing and related topics at least once a month.

For the second in our "Racial Healing" series, we have the honor of hosting featured guest BK Irons. BK is what he calls a "Conscious Comic," in that his humor awakens the consciousness of his audience on matters of great importance. It is in this spirit that BK recorded and produced a video called "Now That I've Got Your Attention."

This video (the audio of which was played during Dixon White's appearance on our show) addresses the very real timeline of the black experience in America from the point-of-view of a black male through history. We will play this again during this episode.

As with most issues that matter, there is of course a black female experience as well. With Madison Paige and other previous guests calling in, we are sure to get their perspective in a very long journey to equality and, simply, human recognition.

Please join BK Irons on this very important subject that needs to be brought to light over and over and over again. You will be better for it..I promise.

I am very grateful for the opportunity. Barbara & I can't wait to get this conversation going...

Cara & Scott Prior (for AZ LD16), Yolanda Bejarano on Stopping Fast Track of TPP

    in Politics Progressive

Last year Cara Prior & her husband Scott Prior ran to represent their Legislative District 16 (Arizona House & Arizona Senate, respectively). In a difficult year for Democrats across the nation, Cara and Scott came up short on winning their seats in the legislature. If you ask many politicians, though, persistence pays off in politics for the hard-working & determined representatives of the people. Cara and Scott have again declared for the offices they sought last year.

Tune in to hear from these progressive champions as they launch their 2016 campaigns for House & Senate in Arizona Legislative District 16 out of Apache Junction, Arizona. The Priors are champions for the working and middle classes, animals, the environment, fair trade, the LBGT community, net neutrality and many other progressive causes. They are co-hosts of the show "Progressive Voices of AZ" on Fridays.

On a recent edition of "Progressive Voices of AZ," Cara and Scott hosted Arizona activist Yolanda Bejarano on stopping the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Fast Track option of said "free trade agreement" with Asian countries. As Ms. Bejarano will reveal, previous free trade agreements approved by the United States have been disasters for American job creation and have hurt America's workers, as well as the economy of the United States.

With progressive champions like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders in the U.S. Senate on her side, Ms. Bejarano joins The Social Spitball Show to get the rest of us on board to stopping the TPP and its Fast Track. Tune in and find out how you can help in this very important (and historic) effort!!

Barbara Dee & Bram Sarkowski are ready to "Put PROGRESS in Progressive" as we hear from these three progressive champions!!

    Let's get the conversation going...
