Recently I was asked to teach meditation to a group of underprivileged middle school kids in El Paso, Texas who are in the chess club.
The chess club team was going to the Texas State chess championship and they were intimidated by other chess teams. I taught them mindful meditation which helped them separate a given experience from an associated emotion which helped them to focus their awareness on the present moment.
Listen in to the techniques that can help to curb kids' impulsivity, reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. The chess club ended up winning state and are headed to nationals!
We are so happy to be a part of the YMCA Healthy Kids Day,There has been so many happy faces and they loved the CD that were provided for them. Thank you for your support.

At a time when teen suicide, bullying, terrorism against Christianity and countless other issues are on the rise, taking a stand for what we believe is no longer an option but a necessity. As Christians we are supposed to be “The Light of the world”, “The Salt of the earth” and “The City on the hill” and are supposed to change the environment we’re in for the better, but are we bearing the fruit of what we say we believe? What’s up with people who say they are Christians but live like they are not? Are we saying we believe one thing but acting out another? How can we be about walking out our faith as opposed to simply talking a good game?
Join us as we have an open discussion on the subject. Call in for the LIVE broadcast or join the chat to post your comment. Visit our website @ www.kingdomcomenet.com and go to the Kingdom Kids Network page for updates. Invite and share with others. You are welcome!

Join us on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. for a very special interview with the retiring Chief of the Tampa Police Department. Jane Castor’s decisive leadership is evident in all aspects of her 31 year career. She was elected the first
female president of a police academy class and 26 years later, she became the first woman to lead the
Tampa Police Department. Chief Castor has redefined community policing in her hometown and driven
down the crime rate with her innovative approach to fighting crime.
Over the course of her career, Chief Jane Castor built a reputation for working side by side with
residents, community leaders, business owners and neighboring law enforcement agencies to reduce
crime and improve the quality of life in Tampa. Those community partnerships are the foundation of
TPD’s dynamic crime reduction strategy, “Focus on Four.” Since its induction in 2003, the plan has
reduced violent and property crime by 70%.
Jane’s strong leadership style is balanced with her efforts to help Tampa’s most disadvantaged children. She recently opened the doors of a multi-million dollar gymnasium for the Police Athletic League. The new facility is now serving more than 300 at-risk children. The department also opened a brand new safe haven for children called the RICH House. It’s the second of its kind offering a safe environment for children to thrive and for parents to connect with social services. Chief Castor’s commitment to at-risk kids is exemplified in her new Young Adult Police Academy. It targets kids on the verge of becoming involved in crime.
Join us as we say farewell to Chief Jane Castor and commend her for serving the City of Tampa and it's diverse communities with distinction.
Schools are no longer a path to cultivation and a life of the mind; they are on a path of a job. Along the way, as schools became a training ground for corps of workers, they also became a means of furthering national interests. The debate about schools had become part of the debate about national power. Which brings us to the twenty-first century.
When George W. Bush announced No Child Left Behind (NCLB), his purported intention was to encourage a set of practices and institute a set of assessments that would ensure every child got the same good start at school. Implicit in that formulation was the now familiar premise that it was up to schools to close the income gap between the rich and the poor. In its most beneficent form, it could have made a powerful difference in the lives of many children. If NCLB had ensured that all kids would learn how to read and that no child would become disenchanted enough to drop out, it might have been wonderful. But that’s not how NCLB played out.
Within just a few years, teachers were rushing to make sure that each child got a higher score on the standardized tests than he or she had gotten the year before. School superintendents also felt compelled to see to it that their schools got higher scores every year. What had been promoted as a means of ensuring that all children received the fruits of our educational system became a relentless push toward improved test scores. With each year, more and more focus was on the scores themselves and less on the education the scores were intended to measure. At the national level, politicians threatened that if we didn’t educate everyone, once again our country might fall behind. The conversation was less about giving everyone access to reading, thoughtful engagement in civic life, or the pleasures of ideas, and much more about seeing to it that everyone could earn a decent wage.
Parenting expert Dr. Kathy Masarie is generous in heart and spirit. Her caring commitment to the well-being of families touches all facets of her life. In her pediatric practice in the late 1980s and 1990s, Dr. Kathy spent extra time getting to know each family.
From many professional experiences, she knew how lonely parents can feel in today’s culture. She saw parents, especially parents of teens, struggling in isolation with family-centered problems such as pregnancy, depression, risky drinking and drug use.
In 1996, she founded the non-profit organization Full Esteem Ahead and then Family Empowerment Network to “support parents to support kids and one another.” Through FEN and with colleague Ruthie Matinko-Wald, she offers parenting talks and classes as well as support materials in the way of parenting books and videos that can be used as curriculum for self-led discussion groups.
Since their publication, Raising Our Daughters, Raising Our Sons, and Face to Face: Cultivating Kids’ Social Lives in the Digital World Parenting Guides have provided parents, school professionals and other caring adults with powerful vehicles for learning, self-discovery, networking and connecting with kids and other adults.
Today, Kathy continues to spread the word about the power of parent networking through presentations, seminars and classes. She is also available for one-on-one parent, individual or family coaching.
Some great questions answered on today's program, including the one in the title...but also how to transform "No" into an unsolved problem.
