I have a dream...Celebrating Our 50 Years of Jubilee!
Our forefathers and mothers planted trees from which we gather fruit, and dug wells from which we quench our thirst. Civil Rights Activist marched for us, died for us and pleaded for our equality. So what are we leaving behind for our communities today? How will we strengthen our kids, famillies and our communities now?
Fifty years ago, Dr. King's "I Have a Dream..." Speech debuted in Detroit and transformed a nation. Now we Celebrate our 50th Year of Jubilee for the Selma March to Montgomery, and join in struggle to teaching us all to Evolve in our Beliefs, Values and Purpose for Elevating our Consciousness on the Greatness that lies within us - all of us!
Our ancesters from Africa knew the power of connection to the Divine, while honoring the human-ness in each other. I invite you to remember the greatness of our people, and we start by remembering our Elders, the holders of Wisdom. Our featured guest for today's show is Pam Perry, the Communications Director for the Detroit Area Agency on Aging. She helps promote the DAAA’s services and events to the Detroit community through both local and online media so we can empower our Elders to be safe, healthy and independent as long as we are blessed to have them with us.
Please join me as she shares valuable information for the elders in your family, church and community.

And as always......Be Amazing!
It all started a week prior to July 17, 2010. I had been thinking that it would be nice to start a podcast. I talked to a couple of friends of mine, and they said that it would be fun to do. My idea was going to be a different podcast with a different friend every week, and then they would cycle through again. Well on that first day of my podcast, nobody was going to be available and I thought that I was going to have to do the first show all by myself. My friend Joe said that he might be able to call in and be my co-host. I waited and never heard from him. The show was about to start. I had the phone ready to start my show. It started, and boy was I nervous. I called the show A Possible Gay Inception becuase I was going to talk about Grease that I had just seen in the theater and the movie Inception that I had seen a couple hours before that. After about maybe 3 to 5 minutes my friend Joe did call in. What a relief that was. We discussed movies and whatever else. The show was ok, but not great. The next show I invited my friend Serjio over to record a show. We did good, but not great. The next week he came back and this time we had a format. the show was great. We had laughed and had a good time, and that's all that matters. We were off and running. We did several shows unless Serjio had to do something with the kids. When he wasn't available then Joe or Shawn would step in. It was such a blast. After about forty something shows, it was getting costly 40 bucks a month. So then I went to Godaddy.com and was fine there, but didn't know if anyone from blogtalk was listening to us. We did about 6 or 8 more shows and occasionaly did a teaser on blogtalk, but then life got in the way and we slowly stopped podcasting. That was in 2011. Then we met Kevin Smith in L.A. and that made us want to do it again, but alas we did not. Now it is 2015 and I am ready to do it again. This time with a different friend every week. So excited.
646 716 7259 all calls taken. I listened to another show earlier - You know, one of the black and proud shows .More power to you if you have one as well. I love our he (the host) thought he was being being profiled in many ways - Really ? How the white man is ALWAYS profiling them . Really ? I think the new form of abuse is being oversensitive We see it in Major Market Media, social circles and everyday speech. What I mean is when one feels victimized because they are "sensitive" that is NOT abuse. What is wrong with being proud of your race - Nothing. But when people are oversensitive because I am proud of my European heirtage and the fact that my family arrived early to the states some people get bent out of shape. I will not apologize for my family background We all have a collective history. My father's side - they were slave owners and had a plantation. They thrived economically. It is what it is. I do not believe it is right to own other people But was it effective as a model to achieve economic freedom (pardon the pun) - yes it was effective. If you think I should not be proud of my heirtage then call in - but do not try the oversensitive approach. It will not work.
Maurice Starr is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer. Though trying his hand at a solo career, he's best known for his work creating songs and albums with pop and soul bands such as Con Funk Shun, New Edition, and the New Kids on the Block.
Originally from Deland, Florida, Johnson moved to Boston, Massachusetts, in the early 1970s. As an artist, Johnson was a member of The Johnson Brothers (not to be confused with The Brothers Johnson from Los Angeles, California) and the seminal electro group known as the Jonzun Crew with brothers Michael Jonzun and Soni Jonzun. In 1980, Johnson changed his name to Maurice Starr and recorded two R&B albums, Flaming Starr and Spacey Lady. Unsuccessful as a solo artist, Starr decided to create a band to perform the songs that he wrote.
In 1982, Starr discovered the band New Edition on his talent show. The group produced a number of U.S. Top 10 R&B hit singles and a Top 5 hit in the Billboard Hot 100. Differences between Starr and New Edition caused the two to go their separate ways. Eventually the band split up. Two of the members, Bobby Brown and Ralph Tresvant, went on to have a successful careers as a solo act, while the three others formed the award winning group, Bell Biv DeVoe.
After losing New Edition, Starr needed a new band to record his songs. In 1984, he created New Kids on the Block, a band consisting of five male teenagers, brothers Jordan Knight and Jonathan Knight, with Danny Wood, Donnie Wahlberg and Joey McIntyre. Starr produced New Kids on the Block to be a white version of New Edition as he stated I honestly believe that if they'd been white, (the group) would have been 20 times as big. With New Kids on the Block as Starr's "voice", Starr won Songwriter of the Year in 1989.
In addition to New Edition and New Kids on the Block, Starr also formed the boyband Perfect Gentlemen and discovered solo artist, Rick Wes.

Tonight's special guest is Kristina Pinson from St Louis, Missouri, the National Secretary of the "Knights for the Innocent" non-profit, which seeks to aid all women and children, and to protect and defend the innocent from abuse. They work hand in hand with law enforcement but once they receive a call they send out a response team. The focus is primarily on Domestic Abuse, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse. They are also available to help and support with other issues but this is the main focus. Because of this activity, dealing with individuals and providing response teams can result in danger to everyone involved. The Knights will be taking an active role, and once they receive a call they'll send out a response team. The team must be of 2 or more individuals for safety. Background checks are done of all member / volunteers. The background check is required because the Knights are looking to make sure that individuals becoming members do not have any felonies for issues the group stands against. This includes, sexual assault, domestic abuse, etc. Group leader William Warren recently said, "We have a lot of good people in this group doing some great things. We're still growing but at a now slower rate, and that is good [because it] gives us a chance to catch up on some things." He goes on, "If we stay focused on why we are here, and what we want to do, we will make this work!"

Wade Hayes, country singer and advanced colorectal cancer advocate, returns to Ask MomRN Show to discuss his brand new album and song that he is launching for Colon Cancer Awareness Month—“Go Live Your Life.”
Wade was inspired to write this deeply personal song after his oncologist told him he no longer had evidence of the disease after two bouts with colorectal cancer, a disease that impacts more than 136,000 Americans each year with about one in five having an advanced form. The song summarizes Wade’s attitude and he hopes it can inspire people going through difficult times to stay strong. The campaign will also give back to the patients who need it most: for every iTunes download of “Go Live Your Life,” a donation of a $1 (up to $50,000) will be made by Genentech to the Colon Cancer Alliance Blue Note Fund, a non-profit that supports advanced colorectal cancer patients. Dr. Manish Shah, an oncologist specializing in advanced colorectal cancer also joins Wade to talk about advanced colorectal cancer signs, symptoms and diagnosis.
