Join me in welcoming Dr. Arshia Qasim to Quantum Leap. We will be discussing brain injury around the world. How does brain injury in third world countries compare to here in the United States. Join us for a lively proactive conversation.
My guest is Debra Pyka, a mother who is trying to bring awareness to not only prevent suicide, but to warn of the dangers of sports and head trauma to our youth. She will be discussing her son Joseph's life story, playing sports, CTE which led to years of depression and ultimately, his suicide. Joseph's brother Seth will join us, since they played sports all through their childhood together. She has tried to contact politicians, White House and Michelle Obama, with no one concerned or responding to her. She also wants to shed light on the responsibility of the NFL with the research started 20 years ago, to warn all parents of the dangers of concussions/head trauma and future effects, which the NFL denied for many years. More young people are dying from sports related injuries than ever. www.sportslegacy.org/research/legacy-donors/joseph-chernach

Wednesday October 29th at 5:00 Pacific Time, 6:00 Mountain, 7:00 Central & 8:00 Eastern join Tonia & Lori for the kickoff of a new program on Brain Injury Radio. "The Tonia & Lori Show" was created by these ladies, both are long time surviviors of Traumatic Brain Injury/TBI. These ladies have recreated themselves and live happy full lives in the world of the non-brain injured or The "Normals". Life has challenges whether you are a Normal, TBI survivor, a youth, an elderly, a genius or a metally handicapped. Listen to this show and hear inspirations. We are all different but we can learn from each other, and our experience in life. Be Well and Accept the opportunities that God gives.
Can you develop a sixth sense or have premonition after TBI? Yes you can! Late the other night I decided to go to the 24 hour grocery store. The traffic was very light. I decided to take my dog bandit with me because he did not want to be alone. Once we were both in the car in the engine was running. I had a strange feeling come over me. The feeling of concern that if I wasn't very careful something could go very wrong
I started watching both sides of the road frequently as if something was out there and I had an annoying feeling that if I didn’t watch out, something could go very wrong. So I continued at about 15 mph below the speed limit, but nothing happened. As I headed home I still had that feeling when like a premonition all of a sudden I just dropped my speed almost to a stop, and lo and behold, there were two baby Dears standing facing my car and if I wouldn't have been going slow. I will surely hit both of them!
When you feel that your TBI has got you down and out and lonely. You need to start searching deep inside for your 6th sense because it felt like angels were looking out for bandit and I and the two beautiful little dears.
So tonight were going to talk about honing in on your sixth sense because personally I believe that God and angels are watching out for us, and even when we feel alone and hurting we are not alone! I believe they are watching listening out for us when we least expect it and I know it because I felt it very strongly!!!

THIS WEEK: BRAIN HEALTHY FOODS
I used to "LOVE" Pringles (along w/a plethora of other food products), but it wasn't until after my TBI that I started noticing... things weren't as they seemed.
Over the last six years, I've discovered over 100 'food products' that I once consumed but now don't (and won't) because of what I've learned about them.
Join us tonight at 7pm PDT on www.BrainInjuryRadio.com or call in LIVE @424.243.9540 as we discuss BRAIN HEALTHY FOOD and items that hinder our overall well Being.
Tune in this week to add another perspective to your daily repertoire. If there is something in particular you would like to hear Kevin discuss, join us on Fridays and share in the chat room with the "Marvelous Maggie" (Kevin's 24/7 Partner and Professional Care Assistant)
STRESSED OUT - with Craig Sicilia and special co-host Cheryl Green
Life is full of stress, with the normal hustle and bustle of things, then you add the holidays to it which magnifies it, then a brain injury on top of it, I know sometimes I just want to bury my head in the ground like an Ostrich and hope the world just passes me by, which I have it only adds more stress. And letting the world pass you by actually only adds more stress and isolation. What do or can we do.
Tonight we are going to talk about strategies and methods that some self-advocates living with brain injury have and are using to deal with the deadly stress and the holiday blues than many live through year after year.
We will talk about passions and consuming our time with positive constructive things that make all the difference in many lives of survivors around the world. There is good stress and bad stress both can overwhelm us in a flash, so it is important to manage both. Finding that balance that each of us can live a happy productive fulfilling life. A life quite possibly more fulfilling than the life we had before our brain injuries.
With a special segments with the amazing Cheryl Green and T-Dog and as well a new episode of Phone Zapp

School is Where Your Brain is: The Home-School Connection
Historically, learning took place throughout all aspects of a child’s life. Maybe not traditionally, maybe it’s in the distant past with the advent of school, but many made an assumption that that is where learning takes place as opposed to outside of school. Increasingly we recognize that learning really takes place regardless of where a child is. However, our educational institutions have been challenged to recognize learning, in less formal environments.
In this show we’ll look at the connection between formal and informal learning and the relationship between the institution of school and other educational opportunities.
Michael Jay and ETT Guests will contemplate the following questions:
How has the nature of homework changed in the last decade?
What is the present day relationship between formal and informal learning for pre-K 12 students?
What role do Badges and other methods of recognizing performance outside of school play in making institutional change?
For those institutions that are pursuing personalized learning what strategies are they using to incorporate the whole child into that process?
How can publishers accommodate and take advantage of these shifts (changes) in the home-school connection in their products and other offerings?
