Body image is a major concern for teens because the media portrays perfection: skinny, long hair, fair skin, and flawlessness. But, this is not realistic. More often than not, teens are not aware that celebrities are made to appear perfect through such technology as photoshopping and makeup. These enhancements promote unrealistic expectations for both girls and boys.
In this show we will discuss how body image affects the youth of today. How it is portrayed in media (social and otherwise) and in school.

How do you help a teen develop and maintain a healthy body image and good self-esteem? Doing so can be a real challenge.
It is common for young people to feel increasingly uncomfortable with their bodies as changes occur during adolescence. Low self-esteem occurs when expectations of how you want your body to look don’t match up to reality.
These types of feelings can lead to distorted thoughts and emotions about your bodies and negative thoughts about body image and self-worth can lead to changes in eating and exercise behaviours.
