The issue of colorism in the black diaspora is as old as slavery and colonialism itself. Any discussion of the topic brings up many painful incidents of childhood and every black person seems to have a story to tell about how it has affected their lives in some way. The various issues that exist around skin shade have affected the way that black people view themselves and each other. Of particular interest is the effect and impact that colorism has had on dark skinned black women. Rashida Marie Strober is taking on the task of tackling the issue and speaking out against the discrimination that dark skinned women have faced and bringing to the forefront the impact it has had on their well being emotionally and psychologically. Join us for a lively discussion of her new book and the topic of colorism in the black community. CALL IN WITH QUESTIONS: 347.215.8933
To be educated and Black in America is the deadliest weapon we have to fight against white supremacy. When you're educated in both your true history and the history the white man lied to you about, it allows you to be ahead of the game.
Most of our people are oblivious and believe everything they were taught in school. They also were taught, subconsciously, that as a black person they will never be anything more than a slave to society. Well, all that is bullshit. AND AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!
To all you lazy ass parents who don't want to help your kids fill out that college application or their FASFA, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM. To all the kids who are lazy and have no ambition to be better than what you’ve been taught to be, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM. To any Black person in America who doesn't use their voice to help guide and influence their people YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.
So how do we fix it? The first step is to understand how important it is to be educated in both the white man's history and the Black man's history… So, lets teach our kids to build jobs and not look for jobs, meaning, as a Black person, you need an education or somebody with guidance to help get to where you wanna be in life.

Who were the first Black Elected Officials? During the month of November, as the country gears up to re-elect or vote in the next wave of politicians, Black Reconstruction will revisit the Reconstruction era to pay homage to the Black Men who came before Obama. During this tumultuous time, Blacks not only established townships, they also positioned themselves to be an integral part of government.
At a Glance.. In 1855, Brownhelm Township, founded by Col. Henry Brown, gained notoriety throughout the U.S, when the township elected an African-American to government office. The NY Syracuse Daily Journal, May 31, 1855 reported that John Mercer Langston was a fugitive slave who had been elected clerk. Brownhelm's early residents had long been known for their strong anti-slavery stance; and Col. Henry Brown's home on the Lake Shore was often a final stop on the Underground Railroad, before reaching Canada by boat. African-American Firsts: Government
Local elected official: John Mercer Langston, 1855, town clerk of Brownhelm Township, Ohio.
State elected official: Alexander Lucius Twilight, 1836, the Vermont legislature.
Governor (appointed): P.B.S. Pinchback served as governor of Louisiana from Dec. 9, 1872-Jan. 13, 1873, during impeachment proceedings against the elected governor.
U.S. Representative: Joseph Rainey became a Congressman from South Carolina in 1870 and was reelected four more times.
U.S. Senator: Hiram Revels became Senator from Mississippi from Feb. 25, 1870, to March 4, 1871, during Reconstruction.
There have only been a total of five black senators in U.S. history: the remaining two are Blanche K. Bruce [1875-1881] and Barack Obama
