    Ferguson - What's the Verdict

    in Motivation

CLAYTON, Mo./FERGUSON, Mo. - Missouri officials plan to announce a grand jury's decision on whether to criminally charge a white police officer in the August fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson at 8 p.m. local time (0200 GMT) on Monday, authorities said.

The death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, a resident of a predominantly black city with a white-dominated power structure, sparked weeks of sometimes violent protests in the St. Louis suburb and has become a flashpoint for strained U.S. race relations.

Activists in Ferguson and around the United States have been preparing for the grand jury's decision for weeks.

St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch's office plans to announce the finding in Clayton, Missouri, where the grand jury met, spokesman Ed Magee said.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has called up the National Guard and local officials have been planning a massive police presence to quell any potential violence, particularly if officer Darren Wilson is not indicted in the Aug. 9 shooting.

Nixon plans to make a public plea for peace at 5:30 p.m. local time (2330 GMT) in remarks at the University of St. Louis, a spokesman said.

The grand jury, with nine white and three black members, has been meeting since late August, and has heard evidence including witnesses called by the prosecution as well as a private pathologist hired by the Brown family to review the shooting. Nine jurors need to agree to bring charges.

    ‘60's was a great era
which was tearing down the negative stereotypes which had been
used to keep black people down, poor and subservient.
There were chants of Black is Beautiful, Black is Brave, Black has
Power. The Red, Black and Green flag was hurled about and
became a symbol of Black Liberation in America. The movement
was vibrant, the drums were sounded and it gave people a sense of
    purpose and pride.
While some folks of a lighter hue tended to interpret this as racism,
it was not. It was merely a way of counteracting hundreds of years
of propaganda which had painted Africans in America as shiftless
    and ignorant.
But the fears of certain lighter skinned people led to one tragedy
after another, and the sudden demise of the movement occurred. An
assassin’s bullet took Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin King,
and the FBI, under J Edgar Hoover, planned and accomplished the
destruction of the Panthers and the BLA by use of infiltration,
entrapment, imprisonment and sometimes direct murder as in the
case of Panther leader Fred Hampton by the Chicago police.
In this way, Black America found itself without direction, and for
about forty years seems to have been wandering around
directionless in the desert, prodded by the media to pretend that
racism was over, and, for some, to swallow the lie that the poor are

ASSATA SHUKUR: VICTIM OF MODERN DAY FUGITIVE SLAVE ACT

“My name is Assata Shukur, and I am a 20th century escaped slave.” - Assata Shukur

Assata Shakur has been living in Cuba since 1986, after escaping from prison where she was serving a life sentence imposed in a highly disputed trial. Assata was a Black Panther then a Black Liberation Army (BLA) leader in the early '70s, so she was a target of the FBI's COINTELPRO.

On May 2, 2013, the FBI placed iconic figure Assata Shakur on the Most Wanted Terrorists list & as the New Jersey State Police announced an additional $1 million totaling  $2 million reward for any information that might lead to her capture.
