    Candiru - Monsters of Nature

    in Environment

Candirus will b e the topic of discussion on Natures Talk Show Monsters of Nature. These fish are perhaps feared more than piranahs by people living around or visiting in the Amazon Basin.Candirus are small fish. Adults can grow to around 40 centimetres (16 in) with a rather small head and a belly that can appear distended, especially after a large blood meal. The body is translucent, making it quite difficult to spot in the turbid waters of its home. There are short sensory barbels around the head, together with short, backward pointing spines on the gill covers.

You are correct in believing that the candiru poses a hazard to humans (and other mammals that might urinate in the water). It seems attracted to the flow of urine (possibly as it resembles the stream of water from the gills of a large fish). The candiru may swim up the stream of urine and enter the urethra of a bather urinating into the river.

This, of course, not part of the fish's normal feeding behaviour - the fish has made a fatal mistake. Once up the urethra the fish can not turn nor can it move backwards because of the rear-pointing spines on its gill covers. It is locked in. The fish invariably dies and the dead fish and associated swelling of the lining of the urethra cause the urethra to become blocked. Surgery is required to remove the obstruction.

Carl Siciliano of The Ali Forney Center

    in LGBT

Carl Siciliano, founder and executive director of The Ali Forney Center, talks to Randy about the current #HarlemNoHate Campaign which aims to raise funds to help the Center purchase a church in Harlem to expand it's services for homeless LGBT youth.

The poetic irony is that the pastor of the church, Rev. James Manning, has spent years spewing vitriolic hate speech towards the LGBT community in Harlem.

Pastor Manning is notorious for signage at the church with messages such as “Jesus would stone homos” and that all supporters of LGBT people should be cursed with cancer, HIV, madness, and eternal damnation.

"The biggest reason our youths are driven from their homes is because of homophobic and transphobic religious beliefs of their parents. If we are able to obtain the space it would truly be a triumph of love over hatred," says Siciliano.

The church is being put up for auction due to unpaid bills and tax liens on February 24th. The goal of the #HarlemNoHate campaign is to purchase the church and make what was once a place that put religious-based hate on broad display, and turn it into a safe haven for young LGBT.

The Ali Forney Center is the largest and most comprehensive organization in the nation dedicated to housing LGBT youth. AFC serves youth aged 16-24, and provides emergency and transitional housing, street outreach, a drop-in center, medical and mental health treatment, a vocational/educational program, and a counseling project for the families of LGBT youth.

Listen as we talk about the difficulties homeless LGBT youth face and how you can help.

Ascension Center Ace Metaphysical People having a spiritual gathering #2

    in Spirituality

Can we actually share our body of Christ in the Ascension Center as Spiritual Beings who are called ACE Metaphysicians? We are sharing our spiritual gathering of metaphysicians. We want to share that we enjoy our communication of information sharing. Would we allow ourselves to know of those who are sharing the Spiritual Goddess Energy with the "Laying on of Hands" as more than annointing the head? Various topics feel as though they are on trials. Using the word GOD with a Big G is that now a thing of  the past. Is GOD now strictly the SOURCE and CO-Creation? We are each sharing our own life stories as we write them with our own choices. How do we maintain who we are in our art, culture, traditions? We are getting into some heavy topics in 2016 including what is important as Christians? Why is believing seen as something bad? If everything is energy then we are all energy. We are all of the co-created source. We are called creationist as metaphysicians who share in culture, rituals, traditions, symbols and ceremony. However what are we now allowed to do in our churches? Is churches and the people who made this country great a thing of the past? What is going on? No Bible in a court of LAW? Why? Intereesting stuf we should know. Know your rights as a citizen/

Melanie DewBerry: Dark, Dangerous and Beautiful, Engaging our Indigenous Nature

    in Spirituality

Melanie Dewberry asks the question: What is your indigenous nature?

She believes that we are all indigenous - to this planet; to each other. She also believes that we are each born with a divine mandate tattooed on our souls; a poem written before the world got its hands on us and labels us.

We all want to be witnessed; seen for who we really are. This especially resonates with Producer and Host, Linda Lombardo, who calls herself the Camelot era/flower child of two Edwardian/Depression-era parents; better seen than heard; neither seen nor heard when adults got together to play cards or have dinner.

Her Power of Naming TEDx Talk reminds us that resonance with our name is powerful and starts to tell a story; we do not negotiate our gifts; the world expects something of us when our true name is shared.

Melanie DewBerry is many things in addition to a kick-ass speaker of TEDx talks; she is a Soul Navigator and brander, a magazine creator and writer, a coach who brings spirituality and her Native American roots to the conversation – even in the corporate world.

She is Conversation Curator & Courage Cultivator. Melanie is a Speaker & Coach on Consciousness, Soul and the Love of Life. She is a lover of languages. Melanie is “She who lives with her Soul on Fire”.

Melanie uses the power of spirituality, language, words, and naming to remind us all how we belong to one another.

    Linda Lombardo hosts.
