Our Blog at www.Katara-Rhythm.com is entitled "Living in America- Freedom is measured by Economics.” That will be our shows theme. “African-Americans’ buying power is expected to reach $1.1 trillion by 2015.” This was a statement by Nielsen (9-22-2011) in their Consumer Report on the Power of the African-American Consumer. It was based upon data from couple of prominent consumer data-gathering organizations. Nielsen released a report on black consumption entitled Resilient, Receptive and Relevant in 2013. Those are the three key words we will look at on this show. Listen to comments from “People on the Street” regarding the consumer Report. It’s a new segment for our show. We examine the performance of Chadwick Boseman in the James Brown bio film “Get on Up.” We will review a couple of cuts from Bill Banfield’s Jazz Urbane CD, “Playing with Other People’s Heads.” Rich Tycoon will drop by allowing us to debut his latest recording. And of course, there will be other surprises. Join us for what promises to be a real lively show.

We as a nation are asleep at the helm. While other nations are prospering, America is falling behind. Oh yes, the GNP may be up and the corporate heads are applauding their bottom lines, while the nation's infrastructure is falling apart.
It doesn't matter to them, because their permanent residence may be in Switzerland, France or Italy rather in America.
The blessings on our nation were as a result of god-fearing men and women who made common sense laws that protected the innocent, protected our children from evil, and protected our citizens with the Bill of Rights.
Today, the innocent are aborted. Our children can buy drugs in schools and our citizen's rights are being eroded.
Yes, we can just complain. But November 2014, we can also do something! We must elect men and women to office regardless of parties, based on their moral belief in our constitution, bill of rights and biblical and moral values.
If we do not, our nation will continue to be drained by laws that protect big corporate businesses. Notice that the bail outs went to the corporations. The homeowners got evicted from their homes. The bail out of the corporations and securities and banks could have saved 100% of the foreclosures in America by forgiving their debt and reinstituting a new mortgage policy that would give everyone A SECOND CHANCE.
But that did not happen and thousands of good people LOST their homes and their retirement incomes.
It took more than 30 years of bad policy and it cannot be repaired overnight. The start however, is at every level of society we bring common sense and moral values back. We vote based on biblical and moral principles and for men and women who are willing to die for the Constiution and Bill of Rights.
Where are the Patrick Henry's and black robe clergy of yester year?
If you are not acquainted with the genius and the greatness of Mary Lou Williams, please let us introduce you to one of the most amazing figures in Jazz history. Pianist, Arranger and Composer, Mary Lou was beloved by MANY - including Duke Ellington. He couldn't say enough about her style and the person behind it. Ms. Williams wrote hundreds of compositions, arranged for the prestigious male bandleaders of her day (remember those times - a WOMAN arranging? A WOMAN having that kind of influence?!) and was both friend and mentor to Monk, Miles, Parker and Gillespie.
Known as "The Little Piano Girl of East Liberty" (Pittsburgh), Mary Lou was self-taught and performed in public for the first time at age six. Her confidence never wavered through the years and she came to the attention of those who appreciated her strong skills and positive personality. One that landed on WNEW in New York City - as a broadcaster with a popular show.
So MUCH to say about Mary Lou - and no one can say it better than CAROL BASH. She is the director and producer of "Mary Lou Williams: The Lady Who Swings The Band." This noble endeavor is an IndieGoGo project that is looking to fulfill its mission by October 28th! There are important movers and shakers involved in this film who LOVE Jazz and LOVE the subject of this labor of love. You'd recognize the names - and we'll drop them when Carol visits on 10/21 at one p.m. Eastern time.
You'll hear about the musican and spiritual evolution of Mary Lou - she converted to Roman Catholicism later in life - and it colored her world in a way that surprised even herself. Maybe inspired by that journey, she said: "Jazz is love - you have to lay into it and let it flow." Join us in The Chat Room on 10/21!

Best known for his role in the 1976 cult classic "Breaking Point," Bo Svenson is now utilizing his talents on the other side of the camera as the director of "Don't Call Me Sir!" a biopic of the life and career of groundbreaking judo legend Rusty Kanokogi, starring the 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist in Judo Kayla Harrison and we would love to set up an interview with you to discuss this inspiring film!
Born in Sweden, Svenson's acting career began after moving stateside and joining the USMC. Honorably discharged after six years of service, he soon secured the role of lumberjack 'Olaf Gustaven' in the hit TV series "Here Come the Brides," and cult classic hit "The Inglourious Bastards."
Film roles include his role as 'Reverend Harmony' in Quentin Tarantino's action-thriller "Kill Bill Vol. II", as well as a cameo in Tarantino's 2009 film "Inglourious Basterds" as a tribute to his previous role. In addition, he has appeared in nearly 60 films during his long career, including two of the "Walking Tall" films as Sheriff Buford Pusser; North Dallas Forty, Heartbreak Ridge, Speed 2: Cruise Control, and others.
Besides his acting and directing work, Svenson is an avid martial artist, holding black belts in judo, karate, and aikido. During his martial arts career, he won the 1961 U.S. Armed Forces Far East Judo Championship's Heavyweight division. His involvement in martial arts has earned him a spot in the Martial Arts Masters Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed upon him in 2009.
