Pete Thomas of Biggest Loser - Sticking to Your Fitness Goals

    in Fitness

Sharon McRill, Owner of The Betty Brigade, will be talking with Pete Thomas from The Biggest Loser about sticking to your fitness goals.

In November 2005, Pete Thomas walked away from the finale of NBC’s The Biggest Loser a winner - and a loser. He won $100,000 for losing the most weight of all the contestants that season. What he lostwas 185 pounds in only nine short months – most of which he lost at home after being “voted off” by the other contestants.

At his largest, Thomas tipped the scales at over 416lbs. As a child, Pete never learned about nutrition and exercise due to his transient lifestyle – a result of his mother’s serious mental illness. As a young child, he was left alone or with his younger sister— forced to find food wherever he could. Both Pete and his sister were put into foster care.

FRESHH RADIO: Interview - Sister Ajali Shabazz #MindBodySoulSearch

    in Lifestyle

I am SO pleased to have an interview of this magnitude this AM! My guest this morning has some dire messages for the planet at large! Sister Ajali will be giving us the information we need to survive during the future cataclysms. I also want to speak to her about a few tragic events that have happened in our not so distant past. This will be the last interview for the season & the first for the month. I am thinking about having a discussion about the importance of finding a sense of togetherness in a world of #Selfies.

Whiplash, Out of the Dark and More Film Poems

    in Movies

Film critic Betty Jo Tucker reviews Whiplash, Boyhood, Out of the Dark and other films that motivated her to write poems about them. The first two movies recently received Best Picture Oscar nominations, and the third is a suspenseful horror release which opened February 27. Time permitting, the following movies will also be covered during this episode: Amercan Sniper, Big Eyes, Jessabelle, White Bird in a Blizzard, The Zero Theorem, Beneath, 3 Holes and a Smoking Gun, and Gosford Park.

I’m trying to be more creative with my reviews, Betty Jo explains. Surprisingly, my film poems are resulting in more feedback, which makes me very happy.

Producer Nikki Starr joins Betty Jo as co-host for this unusual show. Listeners can expect to enjoy Nikki’s lively, candid, and perceptive reactions to the film poems presented.

Pat G’Orge-Walker is in a league of her own; Accomplished Christian author

    in Self Help

Pat G’Orge-Walker is in a league of her own.  This accomplished Christian author and comedienne has an amazing mind and talent for turning her observations of church life into gems of sidesplitting humor.  It is her own special gift from God that enables her to depict the often-ridiculous antics of church folk without subverting the Good News or watering down the potency of its message.

Pat’s comedic gifts range from a southern folk humor laden with parables to an intelligent wit that appeals to a wide-variety of audiences.  Her gift as a storyteller has attracted a diverse and loyal fan base.  Moreover, she is a captivating speaker who is as every bit as poignant as she is funny.

Pat G’Orge-Walker has paid a high price for the ever-present smile on her face.  This Mt. Vernon, New York PK (preacher’s kid) has survived cancer, a raging house fire; a violent assault; a car crash that mangled her body and a viral infection that left her temporarily blinded. Through it all, Pat quietly soaked in material from her father’s Baptist congregation and her mother’s Pentecostal assembly to create the stories that keep readers and audiences howling with laughter. The First Lady of Gospel Comedy is a national andEssence Best Seller, multi-award winner forging a successful career as author and comedian; and has paved the way, formany.  Pat’s storytelling has been likened to Zora Neale Hurston’s folklore—a documentation of American culture and church life in literature.
