Welcome to “Grace Grit & Gratitude with JaiKaur-The Art and Science of Contemporary Life"! Today we have as a special guest, Beth Martens and I know you are going to love what she has to offer you! Beth Martens is no stranger to the hardships of risking it all to do what you love. In fact, it was a rock bottom three-year whirl-wind with cancer that acted as the catalyst to call her out of the corporate marketing world. She not only came out alive, but actually thriving — through the same archetype systems she uses to help clients today. By ultimately facing the end of her life, Beth mastered the art of having an authentic voice, telling the truth and putting herself out there in service to women – imperfections and all. An emotional and spiritual leader, Beth Martens has a knack for offering people the opportunity to explore life at a deeper level. People who engage with her are taken on a journey of music, yoga, meditation, and spiritual and emotional awakening. Offering inspiration through sharing her life story as a two-time cancer survivor, Beth Martens has been quietly discovered by a niche market who follow her career with high affinity.
Bringing and "eastern" approach to the Western World, Beth Martens uses soul-driven lyrics and fully produced/orchestrated music to attract an audience into an experience, rather than just offering an additional song or two to add to one's iPod. Musician, Yoga Instructor, Singer, Songwriter, and Kirtan Leader are just a few of the hats worn by Martens, as she continues to offer new unique experiences to those who have discovered her career.
After spending his teens and most of his 20s playing in rock bands, Ontario's TERRY FERNIHOUGH made a decision to quit, and put his energy into what he really loved, which was writing songs. Terry explains that he was "too rock for country in the 80s, and too country for rock." Then everything changed. Some called it "New Country", some called it "Country Rock". Terry just called it good music. As time has moved forward, his tastes have broadened even further into more traditional country, folk, and even contemporary country, which has moved even farther away from its traditional base. He feels very fortunate to write with some of the most talented artists on the Canadian country music scene. These artists have been nominated for CCMA Awards, ECMAs, provincial country music awards in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario, and two of them are even Juno nominees. Terry will talk about songwriting and will share two of his songs recorded by Canadian country artists Donny Parenteau & Sarah Beth Keeley.

Melody has performed on stages as small as your living room and as large as the Jubilee Auditorium. Notable performances include the 2010 Grey Cup Huddle Town Stage, The Honda Indy Ultimate Street Party and the Taste of Edmonton. Amy Beth welcomes Eileen Rockefeller, author of the compelling memoir Being a Rockefeller: Becoming Myself. The great-granddaughter of John D. Rockefeller shares her inspiring and multi-faceted life with disarming vulnerability. The first woman in her famous family to pen a memoir, Eileen reveals her family's wholesome values and the stark contrast with those often held by the rich and famous, navigating her own identity as she danced around people's perceptions and expectations, and ultimately her pioneering the concept of Emotional Intelligence and the teachings it has spawned.

When artists Beth Whitney and Bradford Loomis began writing together, they had no idea their casual co-writing experiment would blossom into the much anticipated album The Banner Days (releasing August 23rd on MTS Records). That first night, they wrote “My Beloved” in two hours. And after a few more writing sessions, it was clear to both, that these songs merited a bold decision.
From the first time they played together, along with Beth’s husband/collaborator, Aaron Fishburn, the chemistry has been powerful. The combination of Beth’s delicate, pure, and melodious voice and Bradford’s soulful, growling tone makes for a beautifully heart wrenching harmonious blend.
Their dramatic crescendos, minimalist intensity, through intricate harmonies have elicited comparisons to The Civil Wars, the Swell Season, and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ Raising Sand.
With equal parts sweetly anthemic, pop tinged folk, provided by Beth, and Bradford’s gritty, passionate Americana Roots sound, The Banner Days is an intrepid step for both artists.
A recent book by nvestigative journalist Nina Teicholz has taken dietary officionados by storm. Ms. Teicholz spent nine years researching the effect that fats have on our bodies. What did she learn? She learned that everything we know is wrong. Well, at least everything we thought we knew about dietary fats is wrong. For years, we have been told that fat is the enemy. That the the best possible diets were those that were low on fat, especially saturated fat, and that if we are not getting healthier or thinner it must be because we are not trying hard enough. What if those exact foods we’ve been denying ourselves — the creamy cheeses, the sizzling steaks — are themselves the key to reversing the epidemics of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease? Now woudn't that be a scream? Well, join Ken and Beth as they scream about this issue in this weeks show. Call in to speak with the hosts at 9:30PM PDT Thursday 9/11/2014 at (347) 215-9971. Join us in our online chat room or just listen in on the stream. However you join us, please do join us.
