    THE LOVE JOURNEY, INC

    in Spirituality

“Self-esteem means knowing you are the dream.” —Oprah Winfrey

Teach her that she is the dream of her ancestors. Teach her that she is valuable, precious. Teach her that she has worth and she should know it and make sure the world knows it too. Every time she steps outside her door. Teach her to hold her head up high and to look everyone in the eye. That she doesn’t need to bend or bow down or subject herself to anyone. Teach her to make good decisions that demonstrate she understands her value. She doesn’t have to sell herself short, or give a piece (or her entire self) up to anyone, especially if they are undeserving. Teach her to be proud of herself, her history, her ancestors, and her own story—all of it.

Tell the Truth Tuesday: Thrown chicken bones

    in Entertainment

I was unable to do my Manic Monday show last night because of overwhelming grief. Its also suiting that Prince wrote the song ,"Manic Monday" for the Bangles. I contemplated whether to do todays show from bed. I decided I would give you a little something. I have to. I have to dedicate this show to my mother. She suffered terribly while on earth. Her only passion was her children. I never understood that until I had one. Yesterday was spent locked in a hotel to harness my grief. I invited my brothers, my sister, my son was with me and my stepfather was there. I summoned a friend to bring me chicken....fried chicken and red beans and rice. He obliged. When I woke up and checked my phone, I had called people and was abrasive. Then I looked and saw there were chicken wing bones all over the floor. I was in my yellow bikini curled on the edge of the bed in a robe. What lay beside me was the book ,'PIMP" by Iceberg Slim. My editor was on the couch bed sleeping. For the first time in a long time I took my golden glass and dumped my red wine down the bathroom sink. It looked terribly similar to blood. The exact kind of blood that would seep through my long sleeve shirts after I cut myself in an attempt to feel alive. Dont worry. For the first time in a long time I am choosing coffee today instead of wine....for now. I am also dedicating this show to my childhood perfect man, PRINCE.

Repurposing Items To Be Fit and Fabulous

    in Self Help

Are you on a budget yet want to be able to bend over and tie your shoelaces?  Do you want to have the energy to do the things you love without the cost of  a gym membership? Join me and my guest Agnes C. Davis as she shares ways we can be fit using items we have in our home.

Six years ago, Agnes C. Davis was wrongfully terminated from her job at a top New York City hospital and had to reinvent her professional and personal life. She was broken, broke depressed and overweight. Davis fought hard to get her job back and fought harder to maintain her sanity and get the weight off. Working out at home was her medicine of choice.

These days, Davis, is healthy, fit, fabulous and the CEO of swim swim swim I SAY (http://www.swimswimswimisay.com), and a full-time cardiovascular perfusionist at a top New York City hospital. Agnes worked beside Dr. Mehmet Oz in the operating room for four years operating the heart machine during his surgeries and transplants. Davis is a passionate warrior for living life, having fun and making a difference. “I don’t go to the gym, all the equipment to save your life and heart is in your house. Stick to a plan/vision, commitment, exercise and repetition,” says Agnes.

Cancer is Not an April Fools' Joke and We Are Not Foolin' Around With It

    in Spirituality

Statistics show that everyone knows someone who has been impacted by cancer. Often we have no idea of how to support those people It is the five-letter C-word that no one wants to say. It is the disease that cause friendships to be strained because by not knowing what to say, we don't say anything at all. It is a disease that causes people to lose jobs, home, time, and even relationships. Physical appearances and body weight change. Yet, it often is the purple elephant in the room. However, there is something you can do to support people with cancer who just need to be acknowledged and need to feel they won't lose everything because they are sick for a time.

April 1 often is thought to be "April Fools' Day" and many jokes are played. However, on Friday, April 1, noon PT/3 p.m. ET/8 p.m. in the UK, Purpose Talk Radio host Cindy Freeman will talk with Chix 4 a Cause CEO Jillian Clark about the organization she founded and the challenge she has for people this April Fools Day and into the month of April that is no joke. Chix 4 a Cause helps people who are fighting cancer with its Gift of Love program by helping lessen where (C)ancer (H)as (I)ts e(X)tras. The organization has procurred a proclamation from the City of West Bend, Washington County, and State of Wisconsin in honor of "No Foolin' Around With Cancer" Month. This year, as they celebrate their 12th year in existence, they have created the Purple Hair Challenge asking people to "dye it, wig it, hat it" with the color purple to show support for those going though the battle.

You can join the conversation live via Skype or calling in to 347-205-9074. The show also will be archived. Join the discussion during the live or archived show on the Facebook group Purpose Talk Radio Conversations.
