NBA fans have had only about a week to rest. The NBA Finals wrapped up last week and eyes have now turned to this Thursday. The 2015 NBA Draft is discussed in this 2nd episode of "Ben on Hoops."
Montana native and current University of Portland student Seth Roessmann joines me on the show to give his draft day predictions, help me dissect the prospects, look at potential steals, sleepers to watch out for, and much more.
Joining me on the kick-off episode of "Ben on Hoops" is rising Junior at the University of Portland, Gat Bol.
Gat's journey is unlike any other. Born in the African nation of South Sudan, he moved to Colorado at the age of 5 with no knowledge of English. In 2006, Gat moved to what is his current home of Seattle, Washington to live with his aunt and her family. Having attended multiple schools before the 9th grade, basketball gave him the sense of stability that he desired in his life.
Gat discusses his love of basketball, his experiences as a high school player in Seattle, and the impact that hoops has had on his life.
Next on the Tee with Chris Mascaro this week is legendary broadcaster Ben Wright, Champions Tour Player Bob Friend and 2003 PGA Champion Shaun Micheel.
We'll reflect on the US Open and project ahead to next month's Open Championship with Ben Wright. We'll get his thoughts on what he saw at Chamber's Bay plus what he expects to see at St. Andrews. Does St. Andrews give Jordan Spieth a good shot at the 3rd leg to the single season Grand Slam? Will Spieth's run take pressure of Rory McIlroy or give him added incentive. And what about Tiger Woods? Will the wide open layout allow him to score better and be around for all 4 rounds? We'll hear what Ben Wright thinks.
Bob Friend Jr. has been playing on the Nationwide, PGA and Champions Tours since 1990. Bob has 2 professional wins and 26 Top 10 finishes. We'll chat about his season plus get his thoughts on Chamber's Bay and the rest of golfing season as well.
Shaun Micheel will join us as he's been doing every week to answer your questions. If you have one for Shaun please tweet me @ctmascaro or go to our Facebook page and send me your question. Shaun has become a wonderful friend and will be answering your questions live on the show each week as his schedule permits.
Join Chris Mascaro every Saturday at 10:00 AM as he talks with PGA & LPGA Tour pros, legends, top instructors, equipment manufacturers, media members and all those impacting the great game of golf. Hear them all sharing their stories on Next on the Tee.
Ben Okri joins us live from the Sydney Writers Festival to read from and talk about his latest novel The Age of Magic and what inspired it, its characters, on the true nature of magic, on the book's themes incuding what Goethe calls des Pudels Kern (the real nature or deeper meaning of things), on transcendent knowledge and why we truly are living in an age of magic, on the value of slow reading, why we need new forms of fiction, his new poetry book Wild, on the relationship between writing poetry and writing prose, upcoming work, and lots more. Note: this interview took place following Ben's Age of Magic Talk which I referred to several times in my interview. The talk can be listened to in full here: http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/booksandarts/sydney-writers27-festival3a-ben-okri/6488934
The sunshine of a summer day perfectly reflects the optimism surrounding the 2015 Steelers.
With each passing day, there seems to be a new ranking that has the Steelers near or at the top of the list. One of the more recent lists included Ben Roethlisberger's place among the other "elite" quarterbacks in the NFL, something co-hosts Chris Carter and I will discuss during this week's edition of our weekly Steelers podcast, "What's Hot", which will air Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m. ET.
To listen live, go to our BlogTalkRadio page at the start of the show. To listen anytime, search "The Standard is The Standard" on iTunes to listen in the podcast section. The podcast will also be featured on Thursday here on BTSC.
While the offense has been the story this offseason, the defense has been mostly overshadowed despite many changes to that side of the ball which includes the promotion of new defensive coordinator Keith Butler. Chris and I will give some predictions in regards to what you can expect from this new generation of Steelers defense.
This episode of "What's Hot" will also give way too early predictions in regards to the NFL playoffs, and what AFC teams could give the Steelers the biggest challenge to come out of the AFC this season. While Le'Veon Bell's career is too green to include him among the list of all-time running backs, that won't stop us from ranking our top-10 greatest running backs of all-time. See if Chris and I agree with the BTSC readers that recently voted Barry Sanders as the greatest running back of all-time.
Fans are encouraged to call in at (347) 850-8581 and tell us who is in your top-10 all-time running backs list, along with any other questions Steelers related. Enjoy the show!
