A Nightmare On Bed Bug Street!

    in Podcasting

Tonight we'll be discussing creepy, crawly, itchy, scratchy, blood sucking bed bugs! For starters, if you haven't had the opportunity of being introduced to them, consider yourself lucky! These bugs are becoming a major problem all up and down the entire United States. With air travel being so fluent, and considering luggage is one of their prefered ways of travel, there is no such thing as a bed bug free state.

Bed bugs travel in units and they assault with pen point accuracy leaving their victims either not knowing what hit them or in a frenzy. Most victims wake up itchy and scratching their lives away like a dog with fleas. That's exactly what bed bugs are, the human version of fleas only they don't live on you, instead they feed on you and then go back into their hiding spots until it's time for another blood meal again.

We'll also be joined by David Wallace of "Discount Pest Control" who is the owner of DPC and an active exterminator in Columbus, Ohio which as of 2014 ranked # 3 in the nation's top cities with beg beg infestations. Here's the link as proof

David will be shedding light on bed bugs and sharing some of his expertise coming from the nation's third most infestated city.

There's a lot to cover on tonight's episode with our main priority being "Bed bug awareness" so if you've had bed bugs, know someone or heard a story of someone who's had bed bugs, or know nothing about them at all but want to get educated for just in case purposes, tonight's show is where you need to be tuned in because as always, we're gonna give you the real!

    Whirl With Merle

    in Travel

The town of Barto is where Landhaven Bed and Breakfast, is located at 1194 Huffs Church Rd and owned by Donna and Ed Land.

The building was formerly an 1870s general store.  You can see some of the history in “the event room”.  The first floor has the kitchen, dining room, “gathering room” and one bedroom. I was given one that had a roll in shower and shower bench.  This is very unusual for a BandB.  There are 4 rooms on the second floor and the living quarters on the third floor with an extra bedroom and private bath if necessary.

Friday night called for entertainment. It was a country-rock-bluegrass sort of local group called Frog Holler. The room was packed with what appeared to be mostly followers of the band.  We all loved the music.  Some of the women in the audience couldn’t help but get up and dance.  Concerts tend to be on both Friday and Saturday evenings with a BYOB.

The pillows on the bed were like the best ever!  Would have slept longer if it weren’t for a full day of featured fun to look forward to. Breakfast was a deconstructed blintz.  Bake casserole with the cheese filling.  Then you get to scoop on fresh cooked apple pieces, nuts and a vanilla sour cream.  Donna and Ed maintain an extremely friendly atmosphere. www.landhavenbandb.com

We will talk with the owners.

Coloring Can Change Lives: Crayon Collection Founder Sheila Michail Morovati

    in Motivation

Thanks to Westfield Century City, Vinci Academy and MomAngeles, we get to explore the world of color through the words of author Drew Daywalt's best selling "The Day The Crayons Came Home". Bring your kiddos! We will be coloring, listening to a story (read by me, your favorite LA radio morning mommy) and finding out how contributing your used crayons can help kids & teachers across the nation. It's a program called CRAYON COLLECTION & in this radio interview with Sheila Michelle Morovati we find out how she started such a creative campaign from her kitchen & what motivated her to make it happen. Plus, find out about her very cool partnerships with Penguin Random House and the film makers of THE HERO OF COLOR CITY. Sheila needs to dish up the whole behind-the-scenes story for us.

Thanks for staying up after the kids have gone to bed & hanging out. I have my sparkling sangria from Whole Foods, & 2 sleeping kids, so let's do this Mommy Monday thing! And I will see you early on Wednesday at Westfield Century City 11:00am-12:30. I'll be the mom juggling a book, a toddler, and a Starbucks. Wait. Isn't that most of us? ;-)

    XO Kristin
