SORT BY Relevancy
Physical violence by individuals is often a response to economic violence by groups, unfair systems of commerce put in place by an elite group of people who often descend from people that have seized control of land by violent force. Those who are locked out of opportunities to have access to whatever currency is used in the system of buying and selling eventually get frustrated and choose to take what they want by force. This comes in the form of robberies and burglaries by individuals, who, if caught, end up in prison or whatever other fate is reserved for thieves in the society. They usually prey on the poor and deprived, like themselves, and their crime and punishment often benefits the wealthy class in some way. In the U.S. The prison industry is a profitable business enterprise. The wealthy elite who created the system of deprivation and inequality in the first place are never punished, but they manage to keep the system firmly in place. Yes, the present economic system is unfair to the poor. But we actually have the power to override the system and create one that is just, the system used before any monetary currency was created. Can we go back to simple barter and trade? Can we make it work among enough people to end poverty?
This evening’s show looks closely at society’s collapsing institutions and infra-structure, against a backdrop of eco-systemic collapse, extreme weather, massive pollution and Climate Change and how we humans navigate and are to emotionally deal with, adapt to this severe situation of life as we know it changing dramatically before our very eyes. Can we adapt cooperatively and evolve collectively? Can we use this profoundly challenging situation as an opportunity to grow?
To discuss this, Mitchell’s guest this evening is Carolyn Baker, Ph.D. who has written and worked with these issues with her students and clients for years. Carolyn was an adjunct professor of history and psychology for 11 years and a psychotherapist in private practice for 17 years.

It is in the wee hours of Thanksgiving morning and I am wide away. This show has been on my mind to do since I saw the awful video of the murder of Laquan McDonald. I paused at the beginning of the show because I think it has been said that all of this went down in 30 seconds meaning from the time the officer arrived on scene and fired 16 shots in LaQuan who was already down from the first few shots. But as usual you have those who see nothing wrong. On CNN I saw one of their regulars who come on during police shootings and he had the audacity to say that the killing of African-Americans involving police is not an epidemic. I sat here shaking my head as of last year there was Eric Garner, Tamir Rice and the awful not guilty verdict of Micheal Brown that was happening last year around this time. I can remember almost feeling guilty to sit at my Thanksgiving table being happy when I knew that The Brown family had an empty chair. The officials of the Chicago were forced to release that video and they were forced to arrest the officer involved. But their lenghthy investigation stinks to high heavens. I have tried time and time to again to give Rahm Emmanual the benefit of the doubt but the writing is on the wall. This cannot go on! This young man had a hard life and the system have not only failed him once but twice. I have been watching the coverage of the protests and I thank those on social media who have kept me up on everything happening. So as all of this plays out think about what you are thankful for?
Ceet the Author hails from South Philadelphia, where he began honing his craft as an artist as early as age nine. At age fourteen he wrote a short story for his high school English class titled, Summertime in my Neighborhood. Fifteen years later that story became the basis for Ceet's first official release, 2009's The Whore and The Virgin. The book became an instant hood classic and all of the positive feedback inspired Ceet to release his second effort, A Dog's Day, that very same year.
Ceet then began pursuing another passion of his, filmmaking and videography in 2010 by writing, producing and directing several independent film projects while releasing several more novels under the imprint of BRP Entertainment and with several projects down the line, Ceet shows no signs of slowing down...
Kvn Tajzea (Keh-vun Tah- Jhay) is more than your typical R&B singer, songwriter and actor. Kvn began his love affair with music and acting at a very young age. "I was a very sick child growing up and nearly died a few times. I wasn'treally allowed to play outside until the age of 7 because my immune system was so weak." He read, listened to, and watched a plethora of varying artistic expression. Even after becoming healthy enough to lead the normal life of a kid his passion for the arts continued to grow and manifested itself in a variety of ways ranging from poetry, drawing, songwriting and acting. Kvn is an accomplished vocalist with a four octave range whose smooth, syrupy and comforting voice conceals an old school rasp that lets you in on the pain and tribulation that fuels a tone of hope in every note he sings. "The First Return" is Kvn's debut project featuring the production of hit maker Ron Love of MonaRK Productions.
