Stovetop Politics: travel bans, manufactured offenses, TX Pastors

    in Politics Conservative

Harvard has implemented a travel ban, but the United States can't because racism. Also, Denmark is rolling out the red carpet for returning jihadis.

Mass walkout as Obama speaks at a Democrat Fundraiser. I'd say his coattails are shrinking, but we've been able to see that the Emperor has no clothes for awhile now.

Texas Pastors fight back as Mayor tries to pretend she isn't using the law to censor the Church. Also, ministers in Idaho are being forced to perform gay weddings or face lawsuit.

Plus, just for fun: John Kerry's dumb tweet of the week - and a bonus, Shannon Watts and the absolute idiocy of the anti-gun lobby.

Ruling would permit Florida same-sex marriages in early January

    in Legal

Same-sex marriages may begin in Florida in early January after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit on Wednesday declined to further stay a lower court ruling that overturned the state's ban on gay weddings.

The appellate ruling would permit same-sex couples to tie the knot after the stay expires at the end of the day on Jan. 5, 2015.

State officials can appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Gay marriage is legal in 35 states, not counting Florida.

While gay marriage advocates have had the upper hand in the courts in the past year, a Cincinnati-based federal appeals court on Nov. 6 became the first to uphold gay marriage bans.

That decision, by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, created a split within the courts, increasing the chances the Supreme Court will rule on the issue.

“I don’t see what they can do at this point to stop it," said Don Price Johnston of Miami, who was involved in one of several Florida cases in which judges have struck down the ban, approved by Florida voters in 2008.

The appellate decision stemmed from an August ruling by U.S. District Judge Robert L. Hinkle of Florida's Northern District in Tallahassee, who was the first federal judge to rule against the state's same-sex marriage ban.

Hinkle found the ban violated equal protection and due process protections under the U.S. Constitution.

Florida state officials appealed his decision, as well as state court rulings similarly overturning the marriage ban.

In a filing last month, Bondi argued that the U.S. Constitution "does not prohibit Florida or its voters" from choosing to define marriage as between a man and a woman.

    AND MORE SO TUNE IN...

Life for MJ Prisoner Speaks Out & Don Duncan On Failure of MMJ Initiatives

    in News

In 1986 Randy Lanier won a sports car championship and shattered an Andretti record to become the Indy 500 rookie of the year. What most people didn't know is he paid for his racing dreams by smuggling massive quantities of marijuana.

At the height of the Reagan-era War on Drugs, federal prosecutors charged Lanier and his associates with shipping more than 600,000 pounds of marijuana into the U.S. from Colombia. For eight months, he hid as a fugitive in Antigua, but was eventually caught, arrested, prosecuted and a few days before Christmas 1988 was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.

Under mysterious circumstances that remain sealed by a court order, he was released on Oct. 15, 2014 and is living in a halfway house in Florida. As our first guest, Randy reveals what he is allowed to about his case, speaks out on the necessity of freeing the multitude of people serving life sentences in prison for marijuana prohibition offenses and takes a look at a world that has changed considerably in three decades,

Local initiatives in California communities to allow for patient cultivation and to reverse bans and enact ordinances to allow medical marijuana collectives did not fare well in the November 2014 elections. On the other hand, initiatives to impose taxes on medical marijuana sales did very well. Our 2nd guest is Don Duncan, one of the founders of Americans for Safe Access and currently serving on their Board of Directors, has been up to his neck in alligators on this issue for over a decade.

As the chief lobbyist for ASA, Don has come to learn the intricacies of local and state government and will discuss why the mmj collective and patient cultivation initiatives failed, why taxing marijuana was so popular and what options are available to address the continuing problem of patient access to mmj on the state and local level.
