Having grown up in the midwest we are always proud to share many of the regions undiscovered treasures. On today's show, World Footprints will explore two state capitols--Indianapolis, Indiana and Lansing, Michigan (Tonya's hometown).
Indianapolis is home to the world's largest and the fourth oldest children's museum. Kim Harm from the museum will take us on a tour and share how a children's museum can change a child's life in unimaginable ways. She will also talk about some of their exciting international exhibits, including China's Terra Cotta Warriors.
From its opening in 1879, the Michigan State Capitol Building has served as the gateway to the Mid-Michigan region. Bolding standing in the heart of Lansing--Michigan's capitol city--the Capitol Building draws more than 100,000 visitors annually. This beautiful landmark is one of only 13 Capitol buildings nationwide--including the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC--that have been designated as a National Historic Landmark. Laurie Beth will share with author and blogger, Christian Piatt this week as he releases his #PostChristian book and begins a book tour to promote his message and desire to make a difference in the Church and in life.
As thousands walk away from the church, everyone is wondering: will faith survive the 21st century? Some see the end of morality, others a fitting demise to an oppressive institution. What is clear—is that Christianity as we know it is coming to an end. Fearless and provocative, postChristian offers a roadmap to the future of faith, beginning with an unflinching examination of the church today. Piatt examines the “seven scandals of Christianity”: pride, certainty, lust, greed, judgment, fear, and envy. Piatt writes that these vices have made Christianity “responsible for, or at least complicit in, some of the worst atrocities in history.” But he doesn’t advocate abandoning religion altogether, as he equally examines Christianity’s seven virtues—humility, faith, love, charity, mercy, courage, and justice.
Bold and insightful, postChristian dares Christians to break out of the box and invites outsiders into the fold as together they revolutionize faith for a postmodern world.
CHRISTIAN PIATT is an author, editor, speaker, musician and spoken word artist. Piatt has been featured on NPR's Morning Edition, The Washington Post, Huffington Post, and Sojourners.
Join the show this week or listen to the archive. Share. Keep the faith. Welcome to the show Christian Piatt!
