Feeding Babies and Toddlers, Right from the Start!

    in Food

What should you feed your babies and toddlers?  Why does it matter? You are setting a template for the rest of their lives. What you feed yourself before and during pregnancy, and what you feed your child thereafter sets the stage for short and long term health.  Today, we are going to help right from the start!  Our guest, Zak Normandin, is known as “Daddy Duck.”  Zak is so passionate about how his two young girls are fed that he started a company called Little Duck Organics, a food company for babies and toddlers!   Join Zak along with Family Food Experts hosts Ellen Briggs (Kid Kritics Approved) and Tracee Yablon-Brenner, RD (Real Food Moms, co-author of Best Food for Your Baby and Toddler).  Zak’s motto:  “If you can’t find what you want, then make it yourself!”

His loss, his gift, life is all about perception

    in Motivation

Jack was one of the first hearing-impaired babies identified in Georgia through the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening program. He received his first pair of behind-the-ear hearing aids when he was 6 weeks old. His parents, teachers and audiologists went to great lengths to make sure he learned and developed like any other kid in America.  At 11 years old, he was fortunate to go on a mission trip to Ghana where he realized that this was his calling in life. Jack believes that his hearing loss is a gift so that he can help others who also have loss of hearing.

On his return from Ghana, Jack told his parents he wanted to start a foundation to raise money for hearing aids, audiology care and other hearing expenses that many insurances do not cover. Jack was motivated to make a difference in the lives of kids with hearing loss.  He believed that he had been blessed with the care that he needed and therefore, wanted to be able to bless other people with the same level of care. Thus, 20/20 Hearing was formed and is now a 501-(c)(3) non-profit.  Its mission is to give the gift of hearing and a better future to those less fortunate around the world.

Aside from this extraordinary mission, Jack is a typical 7th grade young man. He loves to play lacrosse and follows the Duke Blue Devils lax team closely.  His fun loving nature is enjoyed by all that are around him.

Our website will give more information of the mission trips that he has been on. www.2020Hearing.org

We have given financial assistance to 4 children since August and currently are in the process of funding 2 more.  We will be helping the deaf community in Leveque, Haiti. This is one of the largest deaf communities in the Caribbean, with over 160 families affected by hearing loss. Jack hopes to help as many people as possible. Jack always says, “It’s a small world so let’s all make a big difference!”

Are there still any Big Mama's left?

    in Entertainment

In today's society, there are more babies having babies, and mother's who would rather befriend their children.  Do you remember when Big Mama was the disciplinary, the chef, the maid, the taxi driver etc.  She had so many titles, that it would take us all day to name.  However, in this segment you will get your chance to express your views on this touchy topic.  Do you feel like there are still some Big Mama's out there, or does she not exist any more?  You will also get your chance to speak with another Amazon's bestselling Author this week.  Adrienne Thompson will be in the playhouse discussing her life, as an author.  It's definitely going down in this segment, and you don't want to miss it.  Come hang out with the Queens, and our special guest Adrienne Thompson, as we turn up the heat, and set the playhouse on Fire.

Let's Talk Too! Author Debbie McGowan

    in Books

    I'm your host

       Guest

    Author Debbie McGowan

She is an author and publisher based in a semi-rural corner of Lancashire, England. She writes character-driven, realist fiction, celebrating life, love and relationships. A working class girl, she ‘ran away’ to London at 17, was homeless, unemployed and then homeless again, interspersed with animal rights activism (all legal, honest ;)) and volunteer work as a mental health advocate. At 25, she went back to college to study social science— tough with two toddlers, but they had a ‘stay at home’ dad, so it worked itself out. These days, the toddlers are young women (much to their chagrin), and Debbie teaches undergraduate students, writes novels and runs an independent publishing company, occasionally grabbing an hour of sleep where she can!

    The Natural Mentoring Experience

    in Self Help

As a mentoring show I try to bring attention to what a great need there is for black people to share our experiences with each other, as being a perhaps, a first step or next step towards loving and caring about each other in an unprecedented manner.  For without love for each other, genuine love from the heart born of struggles and strifes, we flaunder terribly: very badly or unpleasantly. Although our intentions are honorable and heartfelt, does the white racism supremacist plan somehow filter in to disrupt our goals?  Maybe via our subconscious, so that our messages to each other are only half successful?  And the other half that is left is our multifaceted anger towards each other that lingers?  Have we not seen the video clips, sound bites of our people going at each other in a fashion that would make the white racist supremist proud of their handy work?  And in the end we are left with what we started with, their plan to divide and conquer, as we’ve seen them do through our history.  Shame on us for not being smarter, more intelligent when it comes to our communications with each other. No need to be concerned about infiltrators, right?  We can easily do the work for them!  All too often we do.  So, with that in mind, let us try harder to have a collective mentoring experience, check egos at the threshold or portal, place on the table what you WILL and see who partakes.  If you heard my theme song:  Brown Baby and listen the words, it will be our own brown and black babies slipping through the cracks of the adults inability to insightfully relate to each other,so the babies will drink from the plenty cup!  FYI, that cups is filled with more than just the materialism of a corrupt capitalistic society or world they/we live in...the ancestors are watching us, they know, we know, so lets do what we know, we can't lose that way, remember, what WE know!
