    BIOGRAPHY WITH AUTHOR LUIS GONZALEZ

    in Books

Luis Gonzalez grew up in Culver City, California after his widowed mother of three fled Communist Cuba in the late 1960’s. Though he quickly assimilated into his new country and culture, and though he had no trouble mastering his new language, Cuba never left him. Cuba was always with him: inside him, driving him, calling him. He realized this more than ever when, in the 6th grade, he did his country report on Cuba and thus began a love affair with his homeland that continues to this day. It was only natural that Cuba should play a part in his writing, and even from grammar school age, Luis Gonzalez knew that writing was in his blood.

“I always loved to write, even as a young child, I guess I’ve always been an indie author because when I was in the third grade, after only having been in this country a couple of years, I wrote two stories. One was called The Magic Slippers, the other "The Dolphins." I took sheets of paper that I folded over and stapled and not only did I write the stories, but I illustrated them and made the cover and everything for them. I still have these two first books of mine and I look back on them now and wonder, wow, I really always was a writer. To this day those two items remain some of my most treasured possessions for they provide a glimpse into the passion that helped shape the person that I am, and if I’m anything, I’m passionate, and if I’m passionate about anything, it’s writing.”

As someone who is deeply moved and inspired by politics and religion and the arts, it was no wonder that he came up with the idea for his novel, Luz, a story that grapples with all three realms. These days Luis Gonzalez calls San Francisco home where he lives with his wife and two of four daughters.

    in Spirituality

Please join us for an interview with Courtney Amundson, 20-year-old author of “Teachings from God: Greeting Your Soul and Revealing the Divine.” Courtney began her path as a seeker at a young age, progressing to the point that these teachings began to flow through her, effortlessly and with complete love and joy, starting at age 16.

Part 2: CUTV News Radio welcomes children’s author Rosemarie Kaupp

    in Books

Warrington, PA – When a parent is faced with the unbearable tragedy of losing a child, we pray that they will soon find peace and “closure.” But closure is not a valid expectation of someone who has suffered such a loss. Nothing will fill that void or heal that wound. Nothing will bring back their child.

But it is possible to move forward. It is possible to have a productive life again. Your life will never be the same, but it can be a good life.

Rosemarie Kaupp is the author of The Amberella Tales, a series of early chapter books for children. Rosemarie was inspired to write The Amberella Tales after losing her son Chris when he was only 23 years old.

“I had a decision to make,” recalls Rosemarie. “I could choose to go on with my life or let this experience destroy me. It wasn’t easy. It wasn’t a straight line. But I knew it was a path that I had to follow.”

So Rosemarie began writing to help memorialize Chris’s life. She had loved reading to her son when he was little and remembered how much he enjoyed it too. She wanted to preserve her connection to him. As she wrote, Chris’s memory served as her muse. It helped her grieve, but also move forward.

“The books have been a labor of love,” says Rosemarie. “It was a huge accomplishment that brought me great peace. I have been thrilled to bring the characters to life on the pages and share them with readers.”

Gail Eisnitz, author of "Slaughterhouse" Chief Investigator for Humane Farming

    in Current Events

Our guest tonight is Gail A. Eisnitz, author of the book "Slaughterhouse" and Chief Investigator for the Humane Farming Association (HFA).

Gail A. Eisnitz, a winner of the Albert Schweitzer Medal for outstanding achievement in animal welfare, has done work that has resulted in exposés by ABC’s Good Morning America, PrimeTime Live, Dateline NBC, and has been featured in newspapers including The New York Times, Miami Herald, Detroit Free Press, Texas Monthly, Denver Business Journal, Los Angeles Times, and US News & World Report.

Eisnitz was the driving force behind a front-page, award-winning exposé in The Washington Post documenting slaughterhouse atrocities entitled “They Die Piece by Piece.”

It is often assumed that farm animals are slaughtered in a clean, orderly process that minimizes stress and pain.  But nothing could be further from the truth.  HFA’s groundbreaking investigations have exposed the fact that farm animals are routinely dismembered while still fully conscious in U.S. slaughterplants.

The USDA’s Meat Animal Research Center (MARC) in Nebraska has, for decades, been using taxpayer dollars to fund meat-industry research to genetically and chemically alter farm animals.  In addition to torturing and mutilating live, defenseless animals, MARC has starved to death as many as 6,500 animals.
