Still Standing with Author KS Oliver

    in Books

Tonight, I will be talking  with Ms. KS Oliver, Author of Still Standing.

I am a mother of two boys, William Sha’Kwan & Trystyn K’Shaun. I was born in New York and raised in Georgia. I am the oldest of eleven children. I have an Associate’s Degree in General Studies, and a certificate in Medical Billing & Coding. Although I have these skills, writing has always been my guilty pleasure.

On May 20, 2010, following the birth of my youngest child, I was diagnosed with SLE also known as Lupus. Subsequently, I was diagnosed with Discoid Lupus (Skin Lupus), Fibromyalgia, Fibrosis, Hypotension, Hypothyroids, Cricoarytenoiditis (Lupus in my voice box) & Severe Depression.

Over the past three years, my medical records are as thick as a how-to manual. I have stayed home in bed for weeks at a time in tears. I had a sore throat for over a year with no explanation. My hair has fallen out in clumps. My skin has broken out to the point where I was almost unrecognizable. God grace has spared me from death more than one person deserves, but even still I am here.
I want to raise awareness to this debilitating disease. I want people to understand it is not easy feeling like something controls your life more than you do.

  • Author and Radio Host David Clarke!

    in Spirituality

Author and show host David Clarke is a retired social worker, a recovered alcoholic, and recovered sex addict. He has poured his years of intense experiences into his third novel, Shades of Gay. The first two were written under the pen name of Davis Aujourd'hui. They are The Misadventures of Sister Mary Olga Fortitude and Babes in Bucksnort. All of his novels have enjoyed rave reviews on Amazon.com.

David has found spirituality as a way to help fill the needs that could not be satisfied through his addictions. He is committed to spreading a message of hope to others which is what his radio show is all about. He is socially-minded and he wrote Shades of Gay as a way to share the pain of addiction and hope of recovery.

Davids radio show, Different Strokes for Different Folks is where you will be finding common ground and taking it to the next level. This show will encourage you to keep an open mind and prepare to open the door to new understandings. Despite all our seeming differences, you will discover we are all basically the same. Each week, there will be an exciting array of diverse guests - famous and common folk - who will point up the fact that we are all spiritual beings having a human experience.

This is a no holds barred show. It won't pull any punches. The guests will have differing spiritual belief systems and some will have no spiritual beliefs. You may or may not agree with things that are said. What you'll need to do is keep an open mind. This way, you'll see where you can find common ground so that you can relate rather than compare yourself to others. http://www.authordavidclarke.com/

What Does Having A Life Threatening Illness /Disease Force A Person To Challenge

What Does Having A Life Threatening Illness /Disease Force A Person To Challenge, Learn And Overcome?

Debbie Berkelhammer (www.debbieberkelhammer.com ) is Author of the new book "Point of View: POV on Dying and Living." She is available to share her insight with your audience.

Debbie overcame a life threatening disease and hopes to help other in a similar situation emerge victorious as well.

    Debbie Berkelhammer POV

    ·  Once you are diagnosed with an illness or disease, who you are and your path is forever changed. It’s how you move forward that will define this new life.

    ·  There are many challenges, these challenges are not just in the beginning of being diagnosed but rather each day moving forward, especially if you are diagnosed with an illness that could reoccur.

    ·  I look at illness as steps to overcome, denial, fear, anger, weakness, aggression, hopelessness, acceptance, hopefulness, strength, faith, hope, truth and gratefulness and trust. Each one of these steps plays a role in your illness and how you move forward and live your life. But sometimes, losing footing happens and you have to start over with the steps and have the hope and strength to know you will get better.

    ·  I have learned to accept my illness and that i can not live with "what if", i have to live with the thought I will. I will live, and I will thrive.

Walking the Woods and the Water: In Patrick Leigh Fermor's footsteps from the Hook of Holland to the Golden Horn:

In 1933, the eighteen-year-old Patrick Leigh Fermor set out in a pair of hobnailed boots to chance and charm his way across Europe, "like a tramp, a pilgrim, or a wandering scholar." The books he later wrote about this walk, A Time of Gifts, Between the Woods and the Water, and the posthumous The Broken Road are a half-remembered, half-reimagined journey through cultures now extinct, landscapes irrevocably altered by the traumas of the twentieth century.

Aged eighteen, Nick Hunt read A Time of Gifts and dreamed of following in Fermor's footsteps. In 2011 he began his own "great trudge"—on foot all the way to Istanbul. He walked across eight countries, following two major rivers and crossing three mountain ranges. With only Fermor's books to guide him, he trekked some 2,500 miles through Holland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.

His aim? To have an old-fashioned adventure. To slow down and linger in a world where we pass by so much, so fast. To discover for himself what remained of hospitality, kindness to strangers, freedom, wildness, adventure, the mysterious, the unknown, the deeper currents of myth and story that still flow beneath Europe's surface.
