Steps of Doe, Crimson Calamity: two bands, four women, much fun.

    in Music

Steps of Doe is the rootsy, LA-based Americana duo of Keena Batti and Molly Falck, who lead a full band replete with lush harmonies and electrified banjo, dulcimer and mandolin. Their music has a sense of humor while it echoes iconic 70’s-style artists like Led Zepplin and Fleetwood Mac, as well as current artists Sufjan Stevens and Elliot Smith. Their debut album,“On Returning” is due out March 24, 2014 on iTunes and the CD will be released at the Hotel Cafe on March 8..

Alternative Country duo Crimson Calamity,  Lauren Harding and past Music FridayLive! guest Mallory Trunnell are no strangers to intricate songwriting and the bright lights of the stage on their own, but together, they deliver firecracker lyrics and glistening harmonies.Crimson Calamity was born from an initial songwriting experiment that turned out the hard hitting single, “Line ‘em Up and Shoot ‘em Down.” which became the catalyst that inspired them to take their collaborative style to the next level.  Their debut EP, “All in the Cards” is built on  country-rock with a little blues for color.

It's time for another visit from Country artist MICHELLE WRIGHT! She has just released a brand new single to radio called "Laugh A Little."

Michelle was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame in 2011. Her long list of country hits includes “Take It Like A Man”, “He Would Be Sixteen”, “One Good Man” & “Nobody’s Girl”.

Her 2013 album entitled Strong – featuring the title track anthem – found Michelle co-writing on 10 of the 11 tracks. Originally from Ontario, she moved to Nashville in 1991 and has made it her home ever since. Michelle is excited to share new music with all of us this year.

Throwback Thursday - Eric Bloom from Blue Oyster Cult

    in Entertainment

This week's Throwback Thursday takes up back seven years to 2008 as we talked to Eric Bloom one of the founding members of Blue Oyster Cult.

The group has been rocking for 48 years now, pumping out hits like "Burning for You" and "Godzilla". They found popularity again when Saturday Night Live in 2000 when their song "Don't Fear the Reaper" inspired the now famous "Cowbell Sketch."

We talked to Bloom about the sketch, his side work of creating works of art on guitars, and the longevity of the band.

    The17thAngieBowieBarnett/RickHuntBlogTalkRadioShow#17withCHICK CASHMAN

    in Entertainment

Chick Cashman is a great guitarist, song writer, film and documentary director, events coordinator hailing from Tucson Az. with time in Los Angeles CA, New York and Europe. Chick is a frequent guest on albums from around the world. Chick was featured as a prime player in my book 'Lipstick Legends,' and is a frequent performer in Tucson at the Congress Hotel and all the other happening venues and theaters.

"He has worked with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The Friends of Dean Martin and Angie Bowie. His Film scores include Glenn O’ Brien’s  TV Party and Star Pets. However, for several years in the 1990’s he  transformed into the cross dressing Mr. Chick Cashman the Swingin’ Cowboy. He and his crack band The Countrypoltians were hosts to humorously popular  weekly burlesque/ variety show at Club Congress. What started out innocently enough became Tucson’s own Sodom and Gomorah–drag queens, GoGo dancers, foul mouth comics and even a few animal acts were not uncommon. In between these acts the band would play trashy instrumental music—a ‘cross’ between Link Wray  and the NY Dolls. Cashman prided himself on including many local musicians as well as national touring acts to perform on his show. Chick has been tight-lipped on his plans for the evening, but he has hinted that the performance will make the old variety show appear more like the Lawrence Welk show in contrast. Chick Cashman,  like Clif Taylor, is a Capricorn."

  • Special Guest, Mr. Moonshine (Music)

    in Indie Music

Mr. Moonshine is a 4-piece alternative rock band from Long Beach, California with a fearlessness to explore the bizarre. Brothers Anthony Pedroza (vocals, bass, guitar) and Andrew Pedroza (vocals, synth), Daysmel Muniz (guitar), and Ternell Cooksey (drums) embrace the often-uncharted territories of music, which lends itself to the band’s alluringly dark sound and theatrical mentality. Mr. Moonshine formed in the summer of 2012 while Anthony, Andrew and Daysmel were in New York City performing the rock opera, LOLPERA, which Andrew wrote. “Comfort Me With Absinthe” is truly Mr. Moonshine’s sonic flagship -- a clean, mysterious, beautiful sound that hints at the band’s inherently theatrical nature. The combination of brothers Andrew and Anthony’s contrasting yet complimentary vocals act as the bait that strongly yet carefully pull the listener through a conceptual soundscape of textural and emotional instrumentation. The band’s fearlessness carries through to their general attitude of openness and honesty. Ultimately though, as the last track “Bend Or Break” suggests, the listener is presented with an album that dances with the ebb and flow, or yin and yang, of light and darkness. Mr. Moonshine have played countless festivals and events such as the OC Pride, Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor, Long Beach’s Zombie Walk, and Long Beach Pride, where they covered the entire soundtrack of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, costumed in drag. Fans can expect highly energetic performance that, as Andrew says, “aren’t afraid to get a little spooky, weird and sexy all at once.”

CM Radio - Mar 4, 2015 - Grand Analog, The Good Boys

    in Music

Grand Analog is a raw collective of seasoned record collectors, musicians, and self-described beat junkies with music described as “a beautiful mess of rap’n’roll, dub, and soul.” Their latest release, 2013's Modern Thunder received critical acclaim upon its release and led to the band signing with Jillionaire of Major Lazer's new label, Feel Up Records.

As for The Good Boys, this three-piece focuses on music’s golden past by nurturing the sounds and aesthetics of early innovators like The Beatles and The Beach Boys. The Good Boys celebrate a time when a dapper group of men dressed in suit jackets and neckties could turn a room of well-behaved teenagers into a teeming frenzy.
