We go into some music history in light of the recent passing of Earth Wind & Fire's Maurice White (December 19, 1941 – February 3/4, 2016).
Some question whether this death is recieving fair media coverage. One Facebook post from EWF fanpage "The Legendary Earth Wind & Fire stated:
I'm sitting here going through the New York Daily News and he only received a small article on page 30. A couple of weeks ago when David Bowie and later Glen Frey they both received front page news. I hope the music industry does a better job of paying homage to someone who influenced many a musician. It would be befitting if at the Grammys when they receive the Lifetime Achievement Award they put that as a main part of the show instead of the backdrop as they normally do with this award. No disrespect to Bowie or Frey they deserve that recognition but Maurice does as well.
We explore the contributions, music and legacy of White, from one of the first of many members of his best-selling band and how they rose to the top to compete with even the Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppellin, and Chicago in terms of sheer record sales, as well as many of the other funk/fusion bands of their era like Rufus, Ohio Players, Funkadelic and Parliament.
The son of a renowned Israeli classical Pianist winner of the international Arthur Rubinstein Prize and a Swiss Chemist pioneer mother who's family migrated to Brazil to escape the holocaust, Simon enjoyed success in Brazil with records for Warner bros. and Columbia before moving to LA in 1985. Jailhouse was reunited for selected shows in 2012 including The Monsters of Rock Cruise where Simon was referred as a Singer/Guitarist to Randy Rand and Steve Lynch who were planing a come back with a new line up for AUTOGRAPH. Successfully touring again since the beginning of 2014 Autograph has had great performances at theaters, casinos, various venues and major Festivals as M3, Monsters of Rock Cruise, The Moondance Jam, Firefest, The Halfway Jam among others reaching the 4 corners of the USA along with Canada and the UK as well as releasing 3 new anthem singles one of them "I lost my mind in America" making the TOP 10 ITUNES Charts, a crowd favorite " You are us, We are you" receiving great reviews and airplay and "Every Generation" recently released and featured in Classic Rock Magazine. The new CD "Louder" was released on Jan. 7th of 2016 with 4 original songs written by the new line up and a live version of the top 40 classic hit single "Turn up the radio". The new CD is available at www.AutographBand.com. as dates and Tours are being booked solid for 2016.
Fran Friedman (Frankie) has been a bassist for several decades. She was a full time player in the 70’s, when live bands filled the clubs 7 nights a week. She went back to school in the early 1980’s and became a clinical psychologist, but continued playing in local clubs in Cleveland, OH. While her roots and first love are in the blues, Fran has enjoyed playing a variety of classic rock, R&B, and pop, along with high energy blues throughout the years. After relocating to Florida in 2012, she connected with the local blues scene and became the bass player at a Saturday night blues jam in Lauderhill. Always interested in connecting with and promoting other female players, she started a Facebook group South Florida Women in Music as a free forum for local women musicians to promote their events. Her company, Breakout Productions produced a sold-out event called Three Diva Night, highlighting several of South Florida’s female performers, including Mary Jane Cunningham, Sistah Mary Beth, and Rachelle Coba, whom she backed with Frankie’s Backline Blues Band. Currently, she has a new projects, including another Diva night in 2016. Fran welcomes female singers, instrumentalists, songwriters, and those who support them to join South Florida Women in Music on Facebook to grow a thriving community for local women in music. Promote yourself shamelessly!
