Jews played a significant role in the slave trade in the United States. The Nation of Islam uncovered documents showing Jews built massive cotton marketing businesses, owning thousands of acres of plantations. Indeed, much of the slave-picked cotton produced in the Mississippi Delta region was marketed internationally by Jewish merchants. Indisputably, Blacks picked the cotton. Jews simultaneously established their dominance in the needle trades or textiles industry, the banking industry, as well as a significant—even if little known—role in the formation of labor unions, which allowed them to exercise control over jobs and contracts.
As a matter of fact, two great books detailing the Jewish involvement in slavery in the U.S., was written and published by the Nation of Islam, under the leadership of the Great Minister Louis Farrakhan. Per the FinalCall.com "Published in 1991, The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews, Volume One, set off ideological tremors resulting in denunciations, and chaotic scrambles into the archives of Jewish historical literature by those hoping to debunk its claims. They were unsuccessful, and quietly, the assertions that Jews were merely co-sufferers or innocent bystanders in the trans-Atlantic slave trade have been silenced. The Nation of Islam's Historical Research Department has followed up with the highly anticipated Volume 2 in a series of scholarly volumes, this one under the subtitle How Jews Gained Control of the Black American Economy."

This is my final assignment for my EDU648 class. I will be addressing this following: (1) Under what circumstances did the slave trade begin? (2) How did the Islamic Slave Trade change the existing system? (3)How did it change again during the Atlantic Slave Trade? (4) Finally, what impact did slave trade have on Africa and the Western world?
I would like to give a special thanks to my instructor, Dr. Christopher Sorenson. I've learned a lot from him because he has been one of the most patient and knowledgeable instructors I have ever had. It's been a real pleasure learning from you.

Join The Gist of Freedom, www.BlackHistoryBlog.com, as we continue our audio book reading Breaking The Chains by William L. Katz - Chapter 5 Urban Slave Resistance~ Jordan Hatcher was a seventeen-year-old enslaved tobacco worker in Richmond, Virginia, who in 1852 rose from obscurity to notoriety when charged with assaulting and killing white overseer William Jackson. According to newspaper accounts and trial records, Hatcher was working at the Walker & Harris tobacco factory when Jackson began flogging him with a cowhide for performing poorly. Hatcher initially warded off the blows, but Jackson continued to beat him. In response Hatcher grabbed an iron poker, struck Jackson unconscious, and immediately fled the factory. When Jackson later awoke, he claimed to feel no pain, but the next day he collapsed and died. Hatcher was immediately found, arrested, tried and sentenced to execution. His sentence, however, was later commuted by Virginia Governor Joseph Johnson, and he was sold and transported beyond the limits of the United States.
This case is significant because of Jordan Hatcher’s unusual working and living conditions. Hatcher was a hired slave; though legally bound to Parmella Goday of Chesterfield County, Hatcher had been hired-out to a tobacco manufactory for the year. During that year, Hatcher, like hundreds of other hired slaves, was allowed to find his own lodgings, secure his own meals, and receive the wages for his labor. During the antebellum era, the urban slave system provided an essential labor pool for city businesses and was highly lucrative, but under conditions that made white Richmonders nervous. Critics of the system believed the hiring-out process made urban slavery unstable and encouraged slave workers to be more rebellious and defiant. Hatcher did not hang.

INTERVIEW GUEST: Marsha Reeves Jews, CEO of the Bissell Street Group, noted Speaker, Talk Show Host and the Director of Events for the Herbert Bearman Community Art Gallery.
This Week’s Message: An event planner is, quite simply, someone who organizes an event. When we think of an event we may think of something spectacular, such as the Super Bowl, the Presidential Inauguration, New Year’s festivities in Times Square, or any of the other major events we hear about or see on television. Of course, event planners are needed for all these events. However, event planners also work on thousands of smaller events. Any time people gather together for a purpose, whether it is for a wedding, a conference, a festival, a formal dinner, or the grand opening of a new store, someone is needed to oversee all the details to ensure the event happens and that it is a success. Can you juggle many things at once without missing the details? Are you results oriented but always cautious of the bottom line? If this describes you, then you might have what it takes to become an event planner.
For over 20 years, Marsha Reeves Jews has successfully led her consulting firm, the Bissell Street Group, to international prominence in Business Development, Marketing, Trade Show Management, Awards Ceremonies Production and Events/Meetings/Conference Planning. She has worked with a myriad of companies and in diverse leadership capacities. Her leadership roles have included: Owner of ZZAJ Art Gallery in Harlem; Vice President of Operations for the Modern Day Marine Force in Readiness Exposition; Executive Director of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre Foundation of Maryland; President/COO/Associate Publisher of the Hispanic Engineer and Information Technology Magazine and the Black Engineer and Information Technology Magazine; and Producer of the Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference.

Field biologist Andrea Turkalo of The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) has been called “The Elephant Whisperer.” She is the world's leading expert on forest elephants, working tirelessly to map the sometimes inaudible, language of elephants, in an effort to put to together the world's first elephant dictionary.
A native of China, Grace Ge Gabriel is a driving force behind the International Fund for Animal Welfare China (IFAW) and has worked tirelessly to alleviate human-elephant conflicts and raise conservation awareness in the country that stands at the heart of the “blood ivory” illicit trade.
