For more than fifteen years, J. Brown has been developing techniques to teach people how to practice yoga in a deeper and more fulfilling way. He is also a well-known writer appearing in Yoga Therapy Today, the International Journal of Yoga Therapy, Elephant Journal, and Yogadork. Outspoken and sometimes controversial as a yoga teacher and blogger, J. Brown has sparked broad discussions in the yoga community via his award winning blog.
In 2007, after more than a decade as a popular teacher at various schools in Manhattan and Brooklyn, J. founded Abhyasa Yoga Center (AYC) in Brooklyn, NY. AYC was created to provide a home for yoga practice that adapts to individual needs.
Brown writes: “Fast and intense may serve for a time but it is unsustainable and will invariably require some re-evaluation. For in the slowness of our lives is where we are able to perceive its worth. Yoga practice is no different.” Join us today for the slow yoga revolution with J. Brown.

Sister Jenna welcomes travel writer Pico Iyer on the America Meditating Radio Show! Why might a lifelong traveler like Pico Iyer who has journeyed from Easter Island to Ethiopia, Cuba to Kathmandu, think that sitting quietly in a room might be the ultimate adventure? Because in our madly accelerating world, our lives are crowded, chaotic and noisy. There’s never been a greater need to slow down, tune out and give ourselves permission to be still.
Pico Iyer was born in England, to parents from India, and was educated at Eton, Oxford and Harvard. He began his career documenting a neglected aspect of travel -- the sometimes surreal disconnect between local tradition and imported global pop culture. He has written 12 books, exploring also the cultural consequences of isolation, whether writing about the exiled spiritual leaders of Tibet or the embargoed society of Cuba.
Pico’s latest focus is on another overlooked aspect of travel: how can it help us regain our sense of stillness and focus in a world where our devices and digital networks increasing distract us? He is a contributor to many magazines, writer of screenplays and liner-notes and introductions to 40 other books. His newest book is, "The Art of Stillness." Visit http://picoiyerjourneys.com and watch Ted Talk on the Art of Stillness.
There is nothing like being emotionally moved by a piece of art. Whether it be a painting, sculpture, or some other form of creativity; the overall impression can be lasting and coerce us to rethink how we view ourselves and the world around us.
Manifest Justice is a large-scale pop-up art exhibition, cultural convening, and community organizing event taking place in the Baldwin Hills area of South Los Angeles. Unlike other civil rights exhibits that highlight events from the 60's, Manifest Justice is hauntingly current. Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, and Oscar Grant are but a few of the many victims who have been immortalized through the works of over 150 artists.
Tonight I will be joined by Nijeul Xavier Porter, a young man who is instrumental to the success of the event; and Gabriel Garcia Roman, an artist who has works on display at the event. Both will share why the event is important -especially in today's social climate-and what it means to be a part of the experience.
