Violet ReikiRadio - Let's talk about Shirushi

    in Health

    Shirushi: What’s their importance?

The Shirushi (Reiki symbols) indeed do have their function. They do their ‘thing’ when used both during local and distance healing, as well as attunements. Choku Rei, Seiheiki, Hon sha ze sho nen and Dai Ko Myo are the four traditional symbols used within the Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki. There are however other reiki branches which uses the same symbols such as Jikiden Reiki. Other Reiki traditions such as the Raku Kei Reiki uses symbols such as Raku, Fire Serpent and more.

The four traditional reiki symbols are not as secret as they are sacred. Using the Dai Ko Myo as example: It is made up by general Kanjis which are supposed to be known by fourth grade primary school students! It is not a symbol in and by itself, but when used in proper context it allows for the attunement process to take place.

The HSZSN symbol is another form of kanji, albeit stylized, which are known by primary school students as well. Nothing super secret there, huh? Used in proper context – this symbol is used for distance healing, as the initiating symbol to create a connection to the client.

Choku Rei and Sei Hei ki symbols have traces back to the Kurama Kokyo Sect (buddhism) as well as shinto practices, as symbol for a specific deity. This is not unlike the Makoto no kokyo ho meditation which uses the sun mudra nichirin-in during it’s second last part, forming a triangle infront of ones forehead before vibrating sancript OM, or as it is a japanese version – ON on the exhale.

The ‘symbols’ are abstract things, not having overly much power or importance by themselves. But they are part of the usui shiki ryoho tradition, and cannot be explained by words. It is said that they have to be experienced.

    BATH MASSACRE-Arnie Bernstein

    in Entertainment

On May 18, 1927, the small town of Bath, Michigan, was forever changed when Andrew Kehoe set off a cache of explosives concealed in the basement of the local school. Thirty-eight children and six adults were dead, among them Kehoe, who had literally blown himself to bits by setting off a dynamite charge in his car. The next day, on Kehoe's farm, what was left of his wife---burned beyond recognition after Kehoe set his property and buildings ablaze---was found tied to a handcart, her skull crushed. With seemingly endless stories of school violence and suicide bombers filling today's headlines, Bath Massacre serves as a reminder that terrorism and large-scale murder are nothing new.
"A chilling and historic character study of the unfathomable suffering that desperation and fury, once unleashed inside a twisted mind, can wreak on a small town. Contemporary mass murderers Timothy McVeigh, Columbine's Dylan Klebold, and Virginia Tech's Seung-Hui Cho can each trace their horrific genealogy of terror to one man: Bath school bomber Andrew Kehoe. Ying & Yang Living: Health and Happiness through Asian Nutrition & Spirituality

    in Health

Our guest today is Moon Cho, founder of Ying Yang Living, a website dedicated to teaching the principles of health and wellness through the Asian traditions.

I first found one of Moon's YouTube videos (on fermented foods) and was very impressed with the quality, and I was interested to learn more about Asain cooking.  It turned out Moon's website not only included cooking and nutrition, but also natural beauty tips, Feng Shui advice, exercise ideas, and lessons on spritual practice.

I've been a practicing acupuncturist for 10 years, and it's great that Asian medicine has "arrived" in the U.S., but there is so much more available to us in the rich cultural traditions of Asia.  I'm excited to have Moon Cho on the show today to talk about her two foundations for health and happiness: spiritualty and nutrition.

Moon's website, youtube channel, twitter feed and facebook page.
