The Celebrity Link: #1 songs by Jamaicans reaching UK Singles National Chart
The incidence of Jamaican recordings reaching the United Kingdom charts and impacting British culture has become commonplace.
Millie Small’s 1964 remake of Barbie Gaye’s 1957 R&B hit, My Boy Lollipop set the trend when it climbed to No. 2 on the British charts.
It effectively opened the floodgates for a deluge of Jamaican recordings to flow incessantly onto the British charts.
Earlier, others like Laurel Aitken and Dandy Livingstone created an initial impact, with Aitken’s Boogie in My Bones and Little Sheila in 1957 becoming the first Jamaican-made recordings to be distributed in England.
A couple years after Millie Small’s hit, ska legend Prince Buster burst onto the UK music scene with the ultimate rude-boy song, Al capone Guns Don’t Argue, which established his career in Britain.
The year 1967 saw the biggest Jamaica-UK hit of that period, when Desmond Dekker’s 007 (Shanty Town) found its way to the No. 14 slot on the charts.
Dekker, who had ushered in a more conscious form of Jamaican rocksteady, revealed to the outside world, through the recording, the condition of ghetto dwellers and gun-toting hoodlums in a society going through a transition:
Two years later, Dekker and the Aces would return to register Jamaica’s greatest impact on the UK charts and the first Jamaican record to hit the No. 1 spot there — Israelites.
Although few could understand its lyrics, it became a timeless masterpiece, merely on the strength of its intense reggae beat, reaching the top in April 1969.http://www.herald.co.zw/jamaican-music-rules-uk/ 661-467-2407 www.crsradio.com
Olakunle Lawrence of the Nigerian Blogger will be back to guest speak on the conflict of over 230 missing young school girls in his native Nigeria.
The girls have been missing since April 2014 with more being taken over the weeks. In fact the Boko Harem is threting to start terroizing Cameroon and taking school girls.
Olakunle wrote in an article on his blog the following excerpt:
Those who call themselves freedom “fighters”/ “terrorists”/ jihadist”, and are willing to die based on an ideology which they wholeheartedly believe in, do it based on that ideology alone for the most part. These beliefs are usually hinged on the concept of freedom, liberation and justice. However perverted the principles they espouse are to the “rational” person, to them its their truth.
However in Nigeria, there is a new trend, one that is subliminally hidden behind all the talk of jihad and Islamic liberation. This new trend is what i have termed “Money terrorism“
Boko haram is a terrorist group based out of the northern part of Nigeria. They have been responsible for multiple killings, bombings and senseless acts of violence against innocent civilians and people. They believe only in the “pure”, “unadulterated” and strict Islamic teachings. Now, this group led by its leader Abubakar Shekau claim these acts of violence are based on turning Nigeria into an Islamic state and nothing more. They claim its a fight based on right and wrong as they perceive it.
I beg to differ. I differ wholeheartedly. Read More From The Nigerian Blogger at the following link.

In April of 1944, General Dwight D. Eisenhower's Psychological Warfare Division began transmitting multilingual radio programs from the American Broadcast Station in Europe (ABSIE). Between October 30 and November 20 of that year, Major Glenn Miller and the American Band of the Allied Expeditionary Forces occupied what are now known as the Abbey Road Studios in Westminster at the heart of London's West End, and recorded enough material for six complete programs specifically aimed at German-speaking audiences. This is the Glenn Miller Orchestra at their very finest, recorded under optimum conditions (the sound quality is superb) and performing a perfectly balanced blend of swinging dance tunes and lush mood music, sometimes sweetened by a string section. What makes this portion of the Miller legacy so unique is the German announcer Ilse Weinberger, Miller's own diligent attempts to convey greetings (and propaganda) in German, and vocals by Irene Manning and crooner Johnny Desmond, smoothly enunciated in German as well.
Eisenhower, in his personal letters, did not merely hate the Nazi Regime, and the few who imposed its will down from the top, but that HE HATED THE GERMAN PEOPLE AS A RACE. It was his personal intent to destroy as many of them as he could, and one way was to wipe out as many prisoners of war as possible. Of course, that was illegal under International law, so he issued an order on March 10, 1945 and verified by his initials on a cable of that date, that German Prisoners of War be predesignated as "Disarmed Enemy Forces" called in these reports as DEF. He ordered that these Germans did not fall under the Geneva Rules, and were not to be fed or given any water or medical attention. The Swiss Red Cross was not to inspect the camps, for under the DEF classification, they had no such authority or jurisdiction
The prisoners received on the first day a small portion of food, but on the second and subsequent days it was cut in half. To get it, they were forced to run through the formation of soldiers. Hunched over, they ran between the rows of American guards who beat them with sticks as they approach to food. April 27 they were transferred to the American camp Heidesheim, where for several days there was no food at all, and then only slightly.
Under the open sky, starved, tortured by thirst, people began to die. Liebig counted daily from 10 to 30 bodies that were dragged out of his section "B", which contained about 5,200 people. He saw the prisoner scored another to death because of a small piece of bread.
