Rising Apple Report - NLDS Game Five Special: One More Night in Hollywood

    in Sports

Set your clocks back to Pacific Time folks.  The NLDS between the Mets and Dodgers is knotted at two games apiece, sending everyone back to California for a decisive Game 5 at Chavez Ravine.

Rising Apple continues their coverage Wednesday evening at 9:00pm ET, with senior staff writer and host Michael Lecolant talking Mets baseball with featured guest Gary McDonald from MetsMusings.com.

The Mets' and Dodgers' intertwining New York histories, marvelous pitching performances, and hard play, have so far made for a fascinating four games.

Back when the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants eloped hand in hand to California, they left behind a lovechild whom the jilted citizens of New York City named the Metropolitans, or Mets for short.  The histories of these three teams, therefore, will forever remain linked.

Generational differences first came to a head when the old establishment Los Angeles Dodgers took their expansion era junior to task during the 1988 National League championship series.

After 18 mostly trying seasons, the Mets finally exacted their revenge upon the Dodgers during the 2006 NLDS.

Last Friday, and for only the third time in their respective histories, the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers revisited their unresolved post-season rivalry.

They say family feuds are usually the worst kinds, and Game 2 proved it.

The Mets are traveling back west for one more night in Hollywood.

The Rising Apple Report will discuss it all tonight at 9pm sharp.  The number to call is 646-929-0337.

    Let's Go Mets!

Ep. #119 Rising Apple Report: Calm Before The Storm; Next Stop, Los Angeles

    in Sports

The Mets 2015 regular season ended on a high note thanks to Curtis Granderson.

The N.L. East champs did not, however, wrap up their final week of play in optimal fashion as fans would have preferred.

On the west coast, the Los Angeles Dodgers took care of business winning 5 of their final 6 games to secure home field advantage through the upcoming NLDS.

The Mets, meanwhile, lost 5 of their last 6 games, as well as their last four home series, posting a 4-8 record in their final 12 games at Citi Field.

The 2nd place Nationals also earned a measure of consolation over the Mets.  In a brilliantly dominating performance, Max Scherzer no-hit them in the first game of Saturday's (make-up game) double-header.   Washington then completed a sweep in the nightcap.

Some question Terry Collins' strategy and implementation down the stretch, while others point to Yoenis Cespedes' decreased production as potential explanations for the team's recent slide.

The crew at Rising Apple will attempt to make sense of it all.

The omniscient Rich Sparago will host this evening's 119th episode of the Rising Apple Report.  He'll be joined by site editor Danny Abriano, senior staff writer Michael Lecolant, and the Converted Mets Fan Sam Maxwell.

Together, they'll review the season that was, and discuss their major concerns as the Mets head into the post-season.

The show starts at 9pm (EST) sharp.  As always, you're welcome to call and participate.  The number is 646-929-0337.

  • Rising Apple Report, World Series Special - The Mets Play Baseball Tonight

    in Sports

I don't feel right now as if I'm living in reality, but sure enough, though it feels surreal to type, the Mets are playing in the 111th Fall Classic this very evening, and I can't be any more pumped, prouder and happier in this moment. Whatever comes next is up to the fates, but to echo what Terry Collins has been saying, take nothing for granted and soak it all up. That's what the New York Metropolitans will be doing, and that is what this fanbase will be doing as well.

The folks from Rising Apple will gather briefly on the fiber-optic airwaves to bask in the moment pre-game, while discussing all the things on our mind about the baseball the Mets are about to play.

Take a deep breath, take it all in, and get pumped for the Mets to play World Series baseball. We will convene here at 6pm ET.

    LET'S. GO. METS.
