Dean Haglund is back from Australia where he was busy laying the groundwork for his full-time move down under in May. While he was there, he Skyped with Phil Leirness because, well, your friends in podcasting miss each other when they are apart AND because there was the big news about the return of “The X-Files” to discuss. Part of this week’s show will be that (recorded) conversation, wherein they also discuss Gillian Anderson’s “other” current series, the absolutely terrific “The Fall”.
Back in L.A. there’s plenty of TV news to discuss, including Emmy Awards rulings, a new host for "The Daily Show", the return of “Coach”, the possible return of “Twin Peaks” and the “Sherlock” Christmas special. Before his trip, Dean performed and gave a fantastic presentation about Chaplin and City Lights at the Los Angeles Breakfast Club. This will get discussed as the “Live Event of the Week” before Dean and Phil launch into movie news featuring the latest on Eddie Murphy, Idris Elba, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Bradley Cooper. All that, plus two puzzling emails from listeners.
This week on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour. Wherever good podcasts can be found!
Today's episode of "Stage Right," the show that seeks the conservative voice in theatre, we are pleased to welcome playwright Hank Kimmel. Hank's play, "Fairy Tale Ending," was expertly read/acted by yours truly on last week's show. Please join us as we chat with Hank about his career and his struggles being a conservative artist in a left-wing community. And don't be shy about calling in and talking with me and Hank or writing to me at email@example.com!
This week on Behind the Headlines we're talking once again to Jon Ryman. Jon has published two video documentaries on the so-called terror masterminds Samantha Lewthwaite (aka White Widow) and Abdel Bary (aka at one point 'Jihadi John'). Egyptian born British rapper Bary was initially identified as 'Jihadi John', the black-clad figure in last year's spate of ISIS 'beheading' videos. One month ago however, the Washington Post claimed that Jihadi John was in fact Mohammed Emwazi, a Kuwait-born British man in his mid 20s from who grew up in West London.
Most interesting in these cases is the fact that all three of these alleged 'high profile' terrorists were well-known to British and US intelligence services with their families also having extensive links to the British and US establishments. In the case of the 'official' (for now) Jihadi John - Mohammed Emwazi - this "kind and gentle" computer programmer from London was harrassed for several years by British security Services. Emwazi is the subject of Jon's latest video documentary.
So what's really going on here. Are we witnessing a bizzare theatre constructed by Western governments, intelligence services with the mainstream media serving as stage hands? Join us this Sunday March 29th (2-4pm EST, 8-10pm CET) as we discuss the details from Behind the Headlines.
Producer, writer, director and Actor Richard Hatch, best known for his role as Apollo in the original television series Battlestar Galactica, joins us to discus his many different roles in entertainment, his incredible ability as a motivational speaker, and his new highly anticipated production STAR TREK: AXANAR. Get a com-lock and Beam on in!!!
Tonight's parsing: The 1974 book "Alive" by Piers Paul Read and the documentaries and movie the story inspired. The story is about the Uruguayan rugby team who were involved in the crash of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which crashed into the Andes Mountains between Chile and Argentina on October 13, 1972. Of the original 45 people on the plane, 16 eventually survived for 72 days in the brutal mountains to finally be rescued.
We have got in the rutine of teasing a second subject, so with that in mind, we have been itch'n to start talking about the 1964 movie, "The Great Escape." The true story of the ordeals of prisoners escaping from a German prison camp during World War II.
