Disabled Veteran Radio Talking About Your Antiques And Collectibles

    in Art

Today on Disabled Veteran Radio we continue the fight to get Thousand Of Disabled Veterans Fully Compensated by The Veterans Administration for misdiagnosing Disabled Veterans with a Personality Disorder on the date of discharge. Which made the thousands of Disabled Veterans like myself miss out on VA Benefits for years. When the correct Diagnoses should have been PTSD. This is what my VA Psychatrist states and the Government Office Of Accontability States in 2008 report. And as a special guest today Jeffrey Burchard of Burchard Galleries to talk about what items are HOT in the auction world and about his up and coming auction in April.

NYC Crushes Illegal Ivory In Times Square

    in Environment

According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, illegal trade in African elephant ivory is a major threat to elephant populations in Africa, particularly in the hardest hit poaching regions of West and Central Africa, where the ivory in this investigation originated. African elephants are protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (“CITES”), an international treaty that entered into force in 1975 to prevent species from becoming endangered or extinct due to international trade. The African elephant is also listed as a threatened species under the U.S. Endangered Species Act.

The global demand for elephant ivory led to devastating declines in the number of these giant animals, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s.  Despite international efforts to control the ivory trade and stop the decline of elephant populations, prices and demand remain high, causing continued elephant poaching and illegal ivory finding its way into international and domestic markets.

Recently, the government seized one ton of elephant ivory from a Philadelphia antiques owner named Victor Gorden who will be serving a 30 month sentence for ivory smuggling. As a message to the illegal trade community, the ivory will be crushed in New York City's Times Square on June 19, 2015. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, Gavin Shire, Chief of Public Affairs, from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, will talk to host, June Stoyer about this historic event.

Entrepreneur and Underground Railroad Conductor ~Rev. Peter Fossett (1815 -1901)

    in Education

Join Historian and African American Artifacts Collector, Philip Merrill on The Gist of Freedom as he lectures on Rev. Peter Fossett and other historical related topics.

Entrepreneur and Underground Railroad Conductor ~Rev. Peter Fossett (1815 -1901)

At the age of 11, Fossett's life took a turn for the worst in 1826. On July 4, 1826, Jefferson died. While Jefferson freed Fossett's father in his will, the remainder of the Fossett family still remained in bondage, being sold at auction in January 1827.

Peter Fossett was enslaved by John R. Jones. Fossett's father attempted to purchase Peter's freedom, but Jones refused to sell his son Peter so him. In 1843, after purchasing several family members' freedom, Joseph Fossett moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, leaving Peter behind in Virginia still in bondage. Joseph Fossett made several trips back to Virginia to see his enslaved family members. Twice, Peter Fossett tried to run away to join his family in Ohio. Both times his owner recaptured him.

    ------

In 1994, Philip Merrill founded the organization Nanny Jack & Company, an archives and consulting agency specializing in creating projects that illuminate the African American experience through memorabilia, oral history and research. The company would eventually house over 30,000 artifacts, including photographs, rare books, folk art, documents, music, dolls, furniture, and quilts. Nanny Jack & Company would go on to collaborate with various educational organizations and television channels, including The Smithsonian Institution’s Anacostia Museum and Center for African American History and Culture, the Discovery Channel, the Maryland Historical Society, Maryland Public Television, and the History Channel. In 1996, Merrill became an appraiser with the Public Broadcasting Service’s (PBS) television show Antiques Roadshow.

Homosexuality & Christianity: What did Jesus say?

    in Current Events

Nicholas Snow welcomes Rev Clinton Crawhaw, Senior Pastor of the Metropolitan Community Church of the Coachella Valley, to discuss what Jesus did and did not say about homosexuality, dispelling a lot of the lies and mythology perpetuated by so-called "Christians."

Rev Crawshaw was born in Woking, in the county of Surrey just to the southwest of London (UK) in 1970  He moved with his parents to Devonshire at age eleven, then ran back to London ASAP at age 21. He went forward for ordination in The Church of England at age 30, and after studying at St Steven's House, Oxford, was ordained in 2002. He served as curate at St Alphage's church, Burnt Oak for 18 months, during which time he began to question the Anglican position on human sexuality and pastoral care.  After much soul searching and a period of extended illness he transferred credentials to MCC in 2006, and has worked as chaplain at Carl Bean House, an HIV hospice in South Central Los Angeles, and interim Pastor of The MCC Church in New Orleans, which he saw grow (with the support and hard work of his partner Leon) from a post Katrina low of 11 members to a thriving congregation of 95 members.  In May 2011 he was called to serve the congregation of MCC of The Coachella Valley as intentional interim Specialist, accompanying the church through a period of intense growth and revival. In March 2013 he was invited to remain at MCCCV as permanent Senior Pastor.  Rev Crawshaw's interests are, theology, art, antiques, the great outdoors and his three dogs, Mardi (Puggle), Precious (Australian shepherd) and Zack (Keeshond).

Casey Ward- Mike Pettit- Kevin Pyramids on Mars

    in Entertainment

Welcome to the show...Hammer is giving you a double-shot of greatness you won't want to miss...

Indie-Author and Publisher Mike Pettit is a best-seller of over twenty novels to his credit. He spent many years in little known back-water ports around Asia and the Caribbean, learning and applying the rules of international duplicity, double dealing and knowing when to run. Believe only half of what you see, and nothing of what you are told; survival goes in the plus column. At home on Florida’s emerald Coast, Mike spends his time writing Mystery Suspense and Thriller novels. Stories of lost honor, stolen money, danger coming at you like a tracer round; where the good guy doesn’t always win, and the bad guy isn’t always who you think it is.

Casey Ward (entrepreneur and business owner) has always loved to write. Her stories are reflective of her careers in the diverse fields of Antiques, Veterinary Medicine, and the Fashion Industry. Her knowledge and experience of these areas, provide a constant stream of ideas to build her stories around. Casey has lived on both Coasts and in Hawaii for several years, but her Midwestern roots drew her back to the Kansas City area to live and raise her family.

"Pyramids on Mars is the embodiment of who I am, really. My musical influences, my philosophies on life, the universe and our place in it." Kevin went on to say, “I have always been attracted to space, and a lot of my sound is influenced from my childhood growing up in the '70's. Some of my favorite TV shows back then were Star Trek and Space: 1999. Plus I am a huge Rush and Pink Floyd fan! Thus I use a lot of analog synthesizers like the Minimoog and Oberheim Polyphonic. Predominant of the '70's era and used exclusively by those bands. They are just so warm and mysterious sounding, they resonate with me."
