Love and Light,
Scheduled with the author, Jack Ross, of "The Socialist Party of America: A Complete History."
Based on archival research, Jack Ross’s study challenges the orthodoxies of both sides of the historiographical debate as well as assumptions about the Socialist Party in historical memory. Ross similarly covers the related emergence of neoconservatism and other facets of contemporary American politics and assesses some of the more sensational charges from the right about contemporary liberalism and the “radicalism” of Barack Obama.
“Jack Ross has performed a prodigious and provocative feat of recovery and historical interpretation. In Ross’s telling, the Socialist Party of America is not just a dreary dress rehearsal for Cold War liberalism or neoconservatism but rather, at its best, a living, breathing embodiment of populist American radicalism.”—Bill Kauffman, author of Ain’t My America: The Long, Noble History of Antiwar Conservatism and Middle-American Anti-Imperialism
“Not only does Jack Ross cover the history of the [Socialist Party of America] and its leading adherents, he also offers an analysis of socialism’s rise, decline, and persistence as a marginal movement in the United States that is more complete and original than that of any other scholars of the political left. . . . This history deserves the attention and respect of every reader.”—Melvyn Dubofsky, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of history and sociology at Binghamton University, SUNY, and coauthor of John L. Lewis: A Biography

St. Justin de Jacobis -- Born at San Fele, Italy. At 18 he was ordained. After helping found a Vincentian house at Monopoly, he served as superior at Lecce and in 1839 was sent as the first prefect and vicar apostolic to the new Catholic mission at Adua, Ethiopia. His efforts to evangelize met with great opposition., but in 1841 he was included in a delegation of Ethiopian prelates to Cairo to request the Coptic patriarch of Alexandria to appoint one of his monks Abuna (patriarch) of the Ethiopian church. In Cairo, the patriarch denounced the presence of Father de Jacobis on the delegation and intrigued to a point one Salama as Abuna. Some of the delegation then accompanied Father de Jacobis to meet the Pope in Rome. On his return, Father de Jacobis founded a college and seminary at Guala, and in 1846 a vicariate apostolic of the Galla was established, with William Massaia as its first bishop. These developments caused Salama to launch an anti-Catholic campaign. The college was closed, Catholicism was proscribed, and bishop Massaia was forced to return to Aidan. In 1848, he secretly consecrated Father de Jacobis, now a fugitive, bishop at Massawa, with authority to administer the sacraments in the Ethiopian rite. By 1853, the new bishop had ordained some twenty Ethiopians, was ministering to 5000 Catholics, and was able to reopen the college. In 1860, Kedaref Kassa became king as Theodore II and in return for the backing he had received from Abuna Salama, launched a persecution of the Catholics. Bishop de Jacobis was arrested and improsoned. After release he managed to find his way to Halai in southern Eritrea. He spent the rest of his life in missionary work along the Red Sea coast and died in the valley of Alghedien.
Trending on Facebook this morning is the breaking news that "anti-gay" Michigan Lutheran the Rev. Matthew Makela has been exposed for his homosexual behavior on a leading homosexual dating website.
As you can imagine the homosexual activists and many Christians alike are condemning Makela for his duplicity, sin, and hypocrisy as he was well known for his biblical stance that homosexuality is a sin.
Today we'll discuss how the church should respond and how St. John's Lutheran Church has responded after Makela resigned earlier this week.
This most recent display of anti-American anger reminded me that there are many people in the world who hate America. They don’t just hate America; they hate anything and everything having to do with us. So much so that some would be willing to blow themselves up if they were given the chance to take a few of us with them. If that isn’t hate, I don’t really know what is.
The haters disagree with our culture and believe that we’re avaricious little brats who are completely undeserving of possessing the world’s most powerful country.
Naturally, the amount of animosity felt towards the U.S. ranges from simple dislike (as can be found in France), to the more intense and deep-seated loathing (such as in the Middle East). But why do they hate us so much?
American culture why people hate America This reason mainly applies to the Middle East, but there are other areas of the world that can’t stand American culture.
They hate that we’re free to practice any religion (or not at all), they hate that we have the freedom of speech and they hate that we treat women and men equally.
They don’t like that we’re the world’s number one leader in entertainment and they can’t stand that we have so much pride for our country. Actually, I’m not really sure of anything that they like about our culture. If you know of something, please don’t hesitate to let me know in the comments below.
people are jealous of America know this reason sounds like I’m just tooting my own American horn here, but let’s be honest; America is an amazing country and is the world’s most desired place to live.
This outstanding awesomeness is naturally going to cause people, who don’t live in America, to be jealous and this jealousy is a major cause for all the hatred.
Instead of rehashing the Iraq War, let’s face today’s much more serious threat from Iran - which is precisely why the media is ludicrously re-litigating the Iraq War; Another compare and contrast for you on this fine, sunny, warm Thursday evening/afternoon that will have you vomiting up your dinner in mere moments; The Democrats are all too happy to coerce acceptance of their agendas, because they have no other choice; Why does the Left kowtow to Islam?; LGBT extremists plan to blanket the country with laws that, behind the fig leaf of ‘anti-discrimination,’ will give the state the power to police speech and behaviors; and the growing danger of defining "hate speech".
The Title says it. Why? It makes sense. I come from your place, or very close to it, Even if we are at odds we are closer than others. I am not campaigning for your money, am not a Politician, will be among the best smart Commander-In-Chiefs, even protecting our military men and women. What are your problems or worries. They are many of mine because many of them touch me or have touched me, touched my family and people we know and don’t know. I know an unknown person has no chance to be seen by you. I know that its stupid to do this, and it even looks more stupid. But it’s not that stupid when you consider all the stupid things that are going on right now or that have just happened. Please see me in a better smart light. I say things that you may not like or want to hear. But they are for our own good, They need to be said and brought to light and right. There are some fancy people running for President. I am not one of them. I am one among us, if you can understand that in all its fullness. It is surmised that when you reach the White House, things change you. Except for becoming better, I will not change the good, right, smart within me or what must and should be done. For all, I want much better for you: people, animals, our earth. The White House belongs to you, with a person of the people, ordinary if necessary and not to a Political Party. If you see it that way, could you and will you put together 120,000,000 Write-In Ballots for a Presidency being for us, with just one of us in there seeing to a better United States and for Americans of all blood types of O's, A's and B's. If that many are cast, we will not have a divided country or Congress. One willing caring for all doing person can start a better world. You can begin with such a President. This idea is for you, not me. thanks, bwell, c2it, i am often called c2, Curt Clinton
There is no such thing as alms or sacrifice or offering. There is neither fruit nor result of good or evil deeds...A human being is built up of four elements. When he dies the earthly in him returns and relapses to the earth, the fluid to the water, the heat to the fire, the wind to the air, and his faculties pass into space. The four bearers, on the stand as a fifth, take his dead body away; till they reach the burning ground, men utter forth eulogies, but there his bones are bleached, and his offerings end in ashes. It is a doctrine of fools, this talk of gifts. It is an empty lie, mere idle talk, when men say there is profit herein. Fools and wise alike, on the dissolution of the body, are cut off, annihilated, and after death they are not.
