WORLD WIDE AFRICA THE VOICE OF THE PAN AFRICAN MOVEMENT

    in Politics

The Sickle-Cell Anemia Research Foundation has raised the consciousness ofthe community, first by giving it the basic facts about the disease, and second by bringing to its attention the neglect of the disease in medical research. The community has learned through the foundation 's program that the people  themselves can organize and find solutions to the problems that daily affect their survival. HUEY P. NEWTON The 63rd session of the UN General Assembly in December 2008 adopted a resolution on the “recognition of sickle-cell anaemia as a public health problem,” and urged Member States and UN organizations to raise awareness of SCD on June 19 of each year.21 Despite the fact that the UN has called for global efforts “to bring the disease out of the shadows,” relatively little attention has been given to assessing the burden of SCD and how to reduce it in Africa, where about 85% of children with SCD are born.22 In 2010, the WHO Regional Office for Africa proposed a SCD strategy in official recognition of the fact that this disease is an important cause of child mortality in many African countries.23 Enough is already known to justify investment in public health SCD programs, such as those already in place for other conditions (e.g., HIV or malaria), for promoting widespread screening, health education, and treatment to prevent or manage SCD complications.

The Truth Perspective: Being objective in a subjective world

    in Science

Broadcasting from deep in the heart of the American Empire, join your hosts Harrison Koehli and Elan Martin, and fellow SOTT editors, as they discuss everything from current events and the latest machinations and manipulations of the global elite to history, science, and religion, and how it all fits together.

This week, we'll be picking up where we left off last week, with a discussion on objectivity. What does it mean to be objective? Is it possible, and if so, is it desirable? In what ways do we fail to be objective, and what can we do to become more objective? Join us for a broad-ranging discussion on a topic many would ignore, or abuse for their own purposes.

The Truth Perspective is brought to you by the SOTT Radio Network and SOTT.net, your one-stop source for independent, unbiased, alternative news and commentary on world events.

    Live every Saturday from 2-4pm EST / 11am-1pm PST / 8-10pm CET.

Best In Show, Part 1: The 100, Jessica Jones, Teen Wolf

    in Women

Join us as we discuss three of the best shows on television (and Netflix) today in part one of "Best In Show." Tonight, we will be discussing, The 100, Jessica Jones and Teen Wolf. If we don't get to any of the shows mentioned tonight, we will certainly discuss them next time. To join the conversation, call the number at the top of the screen. As always, keep your calls relevant to the topic at hand and respectful and we will get to as many as we can. Tonight's topic is pretty popular and we anticipate a decent sized audience. We look forward to discussing a lighter (but somehow no less polarizing ha) topic tonight, so get out your smart phones and listen in!
