Matthew Murphy joins me to bring awareness of a congenital disorder that affects 1 in 30 children being born around the world. His son Shawn endured 3 life-saving surgeries during his 1st year of life. This prompted Matthew and his wife to start a non-profit organization to provide education, hope, and help to the families affected by congenital anomalies.

More About Laura Poindexter
Laura Poindexter a native New Yorker (Harlem) worked for (18) yrs. as an Altruistic Community Leader & Social Services Professional within the City of Baltimore. This was an ideal profession based on the fact that she was recovering from pretty much everything. The most extensive recovery period is 29 yrs. and counting.
Her commitment for this field of service could not be denied, as she passionately blazed a trail, making an indelible mark in the field of Human Services Now 48 yrs. old a recently anomaly of events had caused her to once again become dismayed with her existence. Addiction no longer an option she chose to write for her life. Her writings are admittedly inspired by pain, frustration and utter confusion concerning the God of “her” understanding and how he had elected to perfectly orchestrate the various sonatas in her life; but alas, failed to tie them together in symphonic harmony...
Also, a Blog Talk Radio Producer & host for "The Literary Corner", Laura brings passionate enthusiasm to this platform, paying it forward by giving aspiring artist, new as well as established business & NPO's the opportunity to shine.
It is important to raise awareness about college-age adults entering this new world of independence, learning and exploration, especially those in the cleft and craniofacial community. This week's "CleftCast" continues "The Healthy Smile" series, giving attention and emphasis on the college years. Host Joe Rutland shares personal stories as well as insights into different subjects that might trigger (in a healthy way) helpful ideas and ways to get through the college years with a craniofacial anomaly. One thing is for sure: these college-age years will not be dull and boring. Some will find new energy for life; others may still be haunted from their past. The hope is to build an educational and emotional foundation that not only carries forward from high school into college, yet into further adult development. Embrace the special wonder that is you ... no matter where you are in life as you download and listen to "CleftCast" any time of the day or night, anywhere around the world.
Growing up is tough enough for children. When they reach the teen years moving forward, what they have learned or picked up from their families, peers and friends begin to form their own view of life. When a craniofacial anomaly also plays a significant role, that adds more to the maturation process. This week's "CleftCast" continues "The Healthy Smile" series as host Joe Rutland speaks about growing up through these years, how developing a healthy self-esteem can definitely help and begin to set yourself up for success in life. Life is worth living and those in the cleft/craniofacial community can always use a listening ear and helping hand.

Young children in their developmental years (ages 3-8, for discussion's sake) take in a lot of information, both verbally and orally, from their parents, peers and -- in the case of the cleft/craniofacial community -- physicians, plastic surgeons, craniofacial teams and others. This week, "CleftCast" host Joe Rutland begins a four-part series called "The Healthy Smile." In this series' first podcast episode, the focus will be on early childhood and how much a cleft lip/cleft palate/craniofacial anomaly can affect children. Rutland will emphasize how important it is to tend to the emotional well-being of children while they go through their own journey of reparative work. Other episodes in "The Healthy Smile" series will focus on middle to high school-aged kids, then the college years and, finally, adulthood.
THERE WERE SOME TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES IN THE FIRST 2 MINS OF THE SHOW SO PLEASE KEEP LISTENING! IT WAS A FUN INTERVIEW ONCE WE GOT STARTED!

Since 2009 this intricate sonic workshop has yielded blistering tracks with great depth, melding dreamlike sounds with unheard-of guitar strength, tight bass, high-energy drums and powerful melodic vocals. The upcoming album follows the 2011 EP, 'The Envelope,' which, along with lead single, "Universal You," drew praise from established artists such as Godsmack and Halestorm while receiving weekly spins at SiriusXM Octane, MusicChoice and more. The track was also featured in the motion picture, The Witness (El Testigo). Following the release of 'The Envelope,' Message To Venus made the decision to relocate from San Juan to Miami, Fla. "Puerto Rico is beautiful...it's our home," explained guitarist, John Feliciano. "We play there as often as we can, but in order to expand globally we want to be planted on soil where touring opportunities are more frequent." After being nominated for a Latin Rock Award in the 'Slam Alternativo/Rock' category in 2012, as well as participation in the International Day of Non-Violence, Message To Venus successfully employed the help of fans through a crowdfunding campaign and toured the U.S. in 2013. The quartet is now seeking its dedicated fans' help again to bring their upcoming album, Victims & Villains to the masses. Krista McGee’s passion to see teens excited about serving God is a driving force behind her novels. Ever since college when she spent a summer working at a youth camp, McGee knew she wanted to invest in teenagers. Since then she’s been involved in a variety of youth ministries and currently teaches at a Christian school in Tampa, FL. McGee broke into the writing world during her time in Spain. A friend encouraged her to submit an article to a Christian girls’ magazine, and it got published. Once her family moved back to Tampa, she got the idea for her first novel, First Date, a modern take of the story of Esther. Her subsequent books, Starring Me and Right Where I Belong, are based on Rebekah and Ruth. When Krista McGee isn’t living in fictional worlds of her own creation, she spends her days as a wife, mom, teacher and coffee snob. She stops by on Monday, July 15, at 7pm EST.

If this is summer, then why are parts of the country experiencing temperatures that should belong in autumn!? We'll talk about this weather anomaly and what has been dubbed...the return of the polar vortex! Okay, that may be getting a little overdramatic, but how else can Chaos have temperatures in the 40s in the morning in the middle of July!?
