Most of the MSOL program is directed study. All students take 10 courses with a set syllabus that is the same for all. There is one aspect of the program, however, where the students pick a topic of interest, read 30 academic or scholarly articles, and submit a one-page summary of each one of the 30 readings. These are called annotated bibliographies and give the student a chance to excel and become an expert of sorts in their chosen topic. John is joined by one current student and one MSOL graduate on today's show to talk about their experience with the annotated bibliography portion of the MSOL program.
Jeff and Chris chat—and laugh—about getting to the truth in recovery (both in general and in the context of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous,) the shame we accumulate during our active addiction, and how it all sort of ties into our big, messy addicts' egos.

[itvt] is pleased to present an audio recording of the TVOT 2014 session, "A City Is Another TV Channel." The session was described in the show brochure as follows:
"Entertainment is only one of many content types arriving on television and second and third screens. Increasingly, individuals and households are using these screens to consume services that leverage the burgeoning Internet of Things (IoT): One of the most exciting developments in the IoT is taking place around an increasingly sensorized and annotated urban environment. First-generation services like Yelp and Foursquare are early successes. But even greater growth awaits, which will demand more sophisticated solutions, architectures and user interfaces, many of which will employ video and be delivered as televisual experiences. This session will bring together representatives from the world of advanced-television, screen design, urban theory and beyond to explore the ways in which the city will become a channel of the TV of Tomorrow." Panelists included:
Fabian Birgfeld, Director, W12 Studios
Don Dulchinos, President, Smart Home and Away (Moderator)
Melanie Nutter, Consultant (Former Director of the Department of the Environment, City and County of San Francisco)

Today, we are beginning a new series of messages drawn from the Bible and the classic Christian book, The Pilgrim's Progress, by John Bunyan. John Bunyan was a 17th century English preacher. He was thrown into prison because, during that time, the government had a law that said no one could preach without a license and without being a member of the Church of England. Bunyan abided by neither rule and was thrown into prison for 12 years. During his imprisonment, he conceived Pilgrim's Progress and later wrote it. It has become the most popular Christian allegory in the world, has been translated into over 200 languages, and has never gone out of print.
Pilgrim's Progress is based on the journey that every Christian takes out of their sinfulness and into salvation and then onto the straight and narrow way which ultimately leads to the Celestial City or Heaven. As such, the Pilgrim's Progress is based firmly on the Bible. In fact, annotated editions of Pilgrim's Progress have been published which include the Scripture references for each of the scenarios that the main character faces.
This main character is a man named Christian who lives in the city of destruction.

The MSOL program does not require a thesis or exams to fulfill graduation requirements. Instead, the program has students prepare a final summary that contains all the artifacts of their work over the two years of the program. This Integrated Leadership Project includes an introduction, ten response papers (one for each course), 30 annotated bibliographies, a capstone summary, a comprehensive list of references, and other projects completed throughout the program, the latter to be included at the discretion of the students. Today Dr. Deb Jeannett, full-time MSOL faculty member, two alums, and one current student (soon to graduate) will join John to discuss this unique aspect of the MSOL program.
